Rapper T.I.
Rapper T.I. stepped in to help police negotiators trying to talk a man out of jumping to his death from a 22-story Midtown Atlanta building Wednesday afternoon.
“He came to the scene and offered to talk to him, we told the young man that, and he came down,” Officer James Polite with Atlanta police told the AJC.
When the man threatening to jump came down, T.I. was waiting and the two talked for a few minutes, Polite said.

Arrests,

The jury in the lawsuit against hick-hopper Kid Rock and his entourage ruled in favor of the plaintiff Friday afternoon, awarding $40,000 in compensatory damages to 41-year-old Harlen Akins.
The Decatur native received no punitive damages from the 11-person panel.
The jury began deliberations Friday morning, asking to review video recordings from the Atlanta-area Waffle House where the musician and several others got into a fight with Akins.
Akins’ lawyers contend he was the victim of a vicious and relentless beating in the early morning hours of Oct. 21, 2007, during a chance encounter after a Kid Rock concert. Akins is suing for $6,000 in medical costs plus an untold amount for pain and suffering.

The Decatur man suing hick-hopper Kid Rock said the musician and his entourage attacked him without warning during a fight nearly three years ago at an Atlanta-area Waffle House.
“What did I do? What did I say?” testified Harlen Akins, 41, who said he was punched and kicked repeatedly by the rocker’s crew and feared for his life.
After busting out one of the windows in the diner from the outside, Akins said he remembered hearing Kid Rock say, “let’s get this [expletive].”
At that point the fight escalated and moved outside. Kid Rock, aka Robert Ritchie, said his crew was in defense mode, portraying Akins at the provoker.
“We didn’t beat up [Akins],” testified the singer in DeKalb County State Court. He said he and his five co-defendants didn’t go looking for a fight, contending that Akins goaded them into a physical confrontation. The fracas followed a conversation between Akins, a former concert promoter, and a member of the entertainer’s entourage, Davina Barnes.

In their 25 years as a band, members of Drivin’ N Cryin’ say they’ve never seen anything like it.
“Drivin’ N Cryin’ is the working man’s band,” band manager Kenneth Green told the AJC. “Their instruments to them are their tools of the trade.”
Within minutes of letting fans know their trailer and musical equipment had been stolen following a show in Macon, the phone started ringing for the Atlanta-based rock band, led by Kevn Kinney. Fans, fellow musicians and strangers offered guitars and drums so the band could keep playing.
“We’re all emotionally overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and caring the Georgia music community, our fans, our friends and our families have shown,” Green said.

Two local promoters who hoped to book a concert at the Fox Theatre marking the end of Ramadan claim the venue turned them down because they are Muslim.
Basheer Jones and Nardin Jihad say their company, Da Akhs Entertainment, sought the reservation in March for a concert titled “EID 2010.” Eid ul-Fitr is a Muslim holiday marking the end of a fasting period, and the first Saturday following Eid is Sept. 11.

The U.S. population is about 308 million. The number of views of Atlantan teen sensation Justin Bieber’s “Baby” on YouTube as of Friday? A staggering 284 million and growing by more than one million views a day.
Other music videos with huge numbers: Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” (261 million), Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” (147 million) and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” (90 million).
Earlier in the 2000s, after the boy band phenomenon had faded, the music video also began disappearing from the TV airwaves. VH1 and MTV found reality TV (”The Osbournes,” “Flavor of Love”) far more lucrative, relegating videos to the wee hours. Free downloads began killing CD sales, forcing labels to cut music video budgets.
“Money was suddenly sucked out,” said Stephen Hill, BET’s vice president of music. “It affected the quality of videos.”
