Some friendly competition sparks new romances in Glee club

By Amanda Leth   |  Glee  |  October 12, 2010

The slushies are back! And so is Sam Evans (played by Chord Overstreet).
The new kid is an official member of Glee club.

Will Schuester decides to pair the kids up for duets and dangles a free dinner at Breadsticks for the winner to sweeten the deal. Who doesn’t love free carbs?

Sam and Quinn teamed up and blinded us with their blond cuteness, or as Santana put it, “[They’re] so freaking charming.” They seem to be the new it couple, even having their first date at Breadsticks. Rachael shows a softer side, and decides to throw the competition in hopes that the Sam wins and sticks around.

Mike Chang (played by Harry Shum Jr.) finally got his moment in the sun. He and Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz) teamed up together. He mostly just talked through it, but he got a chance to show off his comedic chops and it was pretty entertaining.

Gleeks find religion and all the controversy that comes with it

By Amanda Leth   |  Glee  |  October 05, 2010

You gotta have faith, or maybe just a ‘Grilled Cheesus’. Glee uses its usual humor and darkness to embrace the controversial topic of religion.
Although the episode tip-toes around making any blatant statement about one religion, it ultimately has a spiritual message of acceptance.
Finn Hudson awakens his religious side after he notices his grilled cheese has a face that looks like Jesus burnt onto it. He prays to his ‘Grilled Cheesus’ for his team to win the first football game, and they do. Tada! Finn’s a Christian, which doesn’t sit well with his Jewish girlfriend, Rachel Berry. Britney Spears inspires the Glee club, and one character finally gets a last name

By Amanda Leth   |  Glee  |  September 28, 2010

Heather Morris (Brittany) as Britney on Glee.

I’m a slave 4 Glee. Tuesday night was the much gossiped about Britney Spears tribute episode.

It was finally time for “Brittany” (played by Heather Morris) to break through her ditsy and sometimes one-dimensional character. Read the full story

New faces and new rivalries kick off the season premiere of ‘Glee’

By Amanda Leth   |  Glee  |  September 21, 2010

More: Too cute? Emma from ‘Glee’

The season premiere introduced some newbies but left us wondering how, or if, the characters will ever develop.

Sunshine Corazon, played by “Pyramid” singer Charice Pempengco, blew away the Glee club with her audition, but later is recruited by New Directions rival Vocal Adrenaline.

Another potential new glee club member, Sam Evans, played by Chord Overstreet, didn’t pan out. After a great rendition of “Billionaire”, which was almost ruined by Artie’s rapping, he decided not to risk his popularity by joining the group.

Desperate Housewives: Nail biting season finale

By Amanda Leth   |  Desperate Housewives  |  May 17, 2009

susan

There is a simple reason I watch this show and look forward to the season finales year after year: Murderous twist endings and cliff-hangers.

I wouldn’t put it past the Desperate Housewives writers to kill off just about any character at this point, which is probably what made the finale such a nail biter.

The hookups: It’s not surprising that Bree and Carl started a fling, but it’s still exciting that she won’t be bogged down with Orson anymore.

This season’s cliffhanger was Mike getting married in a church but the bride’s identity remaining a mystery. Last season’s cliffhanger was Susan coming home to Jackson and not Mike. Kudos to the writers for dragging that one out for an entire season, but its time to move on.

It seems like the Desperate Housewives Gods were just teasing us by bringing Jackson back, and then shipping him off to Canada. Even if Susan and Jackson don’t end up together, can’t he just stick around? Be an annoying ex like Carl, maybe even date someone else on Wisteria Lane?

New beginnings

Lily Tomlin made another guest appearance, and rumor has it she and Karen McCluskey and (Kathryn Joosten) might get their own spin-off show. I’d watch!

A new character also waltzed onto Wisteria Lane. Ana, Carlos’s cousin needs a place to live and so they take her in. Ana, also happens to be a super sexy master manipulator —Gabby’s got some steep competition.

“Desperate Housewives” takes a dark turn

By Amanda Leth   |  All Shows, Desperate Housewives  |  April 27, 2009

Dave spent most of this week’s episode sitting in a bath robe with a bottle of alcohol in front of him. Just as I was thinking maybe he’s not a complete psycho, he snapped back into it.

Susan, trying to cheer Dave up, told him that she was the one driving the car that killed his first wife and daughter. Dave does cheer up, and now he’s planning on killing Susan’s son. That’s dark even by Desperate Housewives standards.

Susan and Mike told the police that Mike was driving because — get this — she forgot her license that night. Somehow I think that after you kill two people, this wouldn’t be so important to the police.

‘Housewives’ bid farewell to everyone’s favorite homewrecker

By Amanda Leth   |  Desperate Housewives  |  April 19, 2009

It’s been a painful 4 weeks without a Desperate Housewives fix, but finally the ladies of Wisteria Lane are back. And what better way to come back with a bang then with a sentimental episode paying homage to their fallen housewife?

Edie Brit has kicked the bucket, and we all knew it was going to happen. I have to hand it to the Desperate Housewives lords that the episode wasn’t too much of a cheesy tear-jerker.

Bristol Palins’ baby-daddy talking smack on the Tyra Show

By Amanda Leth   |  All Shows, Daytime talk shows  |  April 06, 2009

Levi Johnston, the ex-fiance of Bristol Palin, daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was on The Tyra Banks Show Monday morning to “break his silence.”

Tyra Banks

Tyra Banks

The dirt Even before the break up, there was some Palin/Johnston family tension, and the interview did reveal some more details. Although Levi attributes the break up to “fights and complication,” he did mention that his sister didn’t really get along with Bristol.

Warning: This is going to start sounding like the script from Mean Girls but bear with me.

The main reason Levi’s sister and Bristol didn’t get along is because Levi’s sister is friends with a few of his ex-girlfriends. And Bristol wasn’t too keen on having Levi’s ex-girlfriends around their baby which sounds reasonable enough — especially since they’re probably 16 years old. Apparently, that upset Levi’s sister, especially when she found out that Bristol had her friends around the baby.

Highlights

Levi showed off his tattoo of Bristol’s name on his finger and admitted that it was probably a mistake. Well, can’t say it’s the worst mistake he’s made. He did appear on the Tyra Banks show. Oprah wasn’t available?

“Desperate Housewives”: Saved by a text message

By Amanda Leth   |  All Shows, Desperate Housewives  |  March 23, 2009

Ring. Ring. Ring

Ring, Ring, Ring

There aren’t many people who can claim that their lives were saved by a text message, but Katherine Mayfair can.

Dave’s master plan was to take Katherine out with a hunting rifle on their camping trip. But right when he was about to take the shot, Edie sent him a text message, and the tiny beep from his cell distracted him. The lesson here is turn your phone off before you attempt to sniper someone. C’mon Dave, that’s sniper 101.

Plot hole? There is one thing that still doesn’t add up. Why is Dave after Mike? Susan was the one driving the car that killed Dave’s wife and child. Click here to refresh your memory.

And why did the article Edie found say, “Fairview: Man won’t be charged in accident that killed two,” accompanied with an enormous photo of Mike. I’m no lawyer, but why would Mike be charged when Susan was driving? Can we blame this on the Patriot Act, or is there a big plot hole here?
