There were many delicious reasons to love Saturday’s Friends of Jupiter Beach Food & Wine Festival. From Buccan chef Clay Conley’s sinful hot dog panini to The Omphoy’s chef Lindsay Autry’s refreshing watermelon-feta salad to Food Shack’s shrimp sofrito and ceviche.
Our favorite bites were a couple of soul-warming dishes that seemed made to order for the blustery afternoon. We just swooned over shopowner Lenore Pinello’s feta-stuffed fresh corn ravioli with lobster sauce. Pinello, who owns In The Kitchen shop and cooking school in Tequesta, recreated the flavor profile of a yummy corn-lobster chowder in the light pasta pillows.
We also loved Gulfstream Café’s rich, silky she-crab soup, a Charleston-style cream soup that’s a popular item at the Jupiter café ($6.25 a bowl at the restaurant).
And even as stormy skies loomed overhead, the mood beneath the bridge at the Riverwalk remained sunny, thanks to the parade of pooches in attendance. The tail-wagging pups had a reason to be happy – the sold-out event benefits their dog-friendly beach.

Culinary school honors Guanabanas’ team
They’ve made their alma mater proud. Five kitchen team members at Guanabanas restaurant and tiki bar in Jupiter took top alum honors last week during Lincoln Culinary Institute’s graduation ceremonies in West Palm Beach.
Sharing the title of 2011 Alumni of the Year were Guanabanas’ general manager Jon Sullivan, chefs Vinny Trupia and Ian Zimmerman, sous chef Ross Meltzer and bar manager Andrew Hietpas.
It was the first time the school, formerly the Florida Culinary Institute, split the honor among a group of graduates.

Table-flipping ‘Housewife’ dishes: ‘Have your pasta and your skinny jeans, too’
THE BOOK: Fabulicious! Teresa’s Italian Family Cookbook, by Teresa Giudice with Heather Maclean ($18.95, Running Press)
The author and co-star of Bravo TV’s Real Housewives of New Jersey follows her Skinny Italian cookbook with more of the same.
RECIPE PHOTOS: 31
AUTHOR PHOTOS: 29
TAKE-AWAY MESSAGE: She will make you love her children.
SIMPLEST RECIPE: Roasted Asparagus Alla Parmigiana . "Spread the asparagus in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with the oil. Roll the asparagus in the oil to coat. Season with salt and pepper. Roast, turning the asparagus after 5 minutes, until the asparagus is crisp-tender, about 10 minutes. . . ."
MOST RIDICULOUS RECIPE: Audriana’s Creamy Polenta, allegedly the favorite dish of Giudice’s 1-year-old daughter. The headnote is ostensibly written by the author’s 6-year-old daughter: "Hi, it’s me, Gabriella."
INGREDIENT SHE DEMONIZES: Vegetable oil. (Giudice uses only olive oil.)
SAMPLE TIP: "If I can teach you nothing else in this entire book, learn this: Flirt with your butcher!"
CELEBRITY WATCH: Food personality and cookbook author Rachael Ray is mentioned, and Giudice drops Sophia Loren’s name ("one of my personal heroes"). There are the expected Real Housewives plugs, plus a mention of Andy Cohen, a Bravo TV executive vice president.
VANITY MOMENT: "As so many of you have written me and attested – I already knew this because I have four kids and don’t work out – if you eat home-cooked, fresh, authentic Italian food, you can have your pasta and your skinny jeans, too."
IN SOUTH BEACH: Teresa Giudice appears at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Books & Books, 927 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. She’ll be autographing books bought at the store. For more info, visit booksandbooks.com or call (305) 532-3222 .
