By Tiffini Theisen   |  Live Shows, Music, SunFest  |  April 30, 2011

A monsoon-like rainstorm dampened some SunFest-goers’ spirits on Friday night – but not for long, as it swept out of the downtown area as quickly as it had swept in.

In the social mediascape, Day 3′s lineup drew swoons (Mike Posner), reverence (Gregg Allman), squeals of delight (Anberlin) and a few complaints about the sound mix (Taking Back Sunday). Read the full story

SunFest Day 2 – Fans react to Cee Lo Green performance

By Tiffini Theisen   |  Live Shows, Music, SunFest  |  April 28, 2011

Once they got over their crankiness that Cee Lo Green, the former Gnarls Barkley frontman, hit the Tire Kingdom stage 20 minutes late, Thursday night’s SunFest crowd delighted most of all in the surprise appearance of the Goodie Mob, Green’s old hip-hop group. Read the full story

Here’s a sampling of public reactions to the concert from across the Web, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

More in attendance seemed excited rather than disappointed at the band’s new sound and soon-to-be-released material.

Music lovers had good things to say about The SuperVillains and the Avett Brothers, too.

Others saw their own unique perks to attending the show, from titillating aromas in the air to creative ways of getting into the festival to simply getting their stressed-out teen out of the house for a night.

Margaret Cho gets political, but stronger stuff still revolves around family

    By Tiffini Theisen   |  Stand-up Comedy  |  December 13, 2010

If there was any question whether Margaret Cho was going to milk her blog war with Bristol Palin for more controversy during the comic’s show Saturday night in Miami Beach, it ended seconds after she walked onstage.

“I’m celebrating because I’m in a huge (frickin’) fight with Bristol Palin!” the Grammy-nominated performer announced exuberantly at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, drawing thunderous hoots and shouts from an audience several hundred strong.

Cho claimed on her blog recently that Bristol, her Dancing With the Stars rival, was forced onto the show by Sarah Palin.

She repeated this assertion at The Fillmore, adding, “I didn’t dance a lot, so I had a lot of time to gossip (on the set).”

Small Kravis crowd doesn’t faze Paula Cole

By Tiffini Theisen   |  Live Shows  |  December 02, 2010

“You will wash the dishes / while I go have a beer …”

That was the twist Paula Cole served in her best-known song, “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone,” during her performance Wednesday night at The Kravis Center’s Rinker Playhouse in West Palm Beach.

The alterna-lyric was delivered with a wink and a gun-trigger gesture that suggested a bit of naughtiness, fitting for an artist who subverted pop-music expectations by exiling herself for a decade after her late-90s peak.

Cole talked openly onstage Wednesday about taking time out to raise a child, about her divorce, about her daughter’s asthma that in part prompted her to move from Los Angeles back to her hometown of Rockport, Mass., and about her weariness with the spotlight.

Middle-age spread: In Hollywood, is it OK only for men?

By Tiffini Theisen   |  Celeb Stalker, Comedy, Gossip, Movies, Romantic comedies  |  October 12, 2009

Middle-aged spread. It happens – but not in Hollywood.

    kdavis

Or, at least, not to Hollywood actresses who want to remain sought-after stars.

Sex and The City‘s Kristin Davis, for instance, favors hiking and the elliptical machine to keep her 44-year-old bod camera-worthy, she tells Self magazine.

And it shows during the strip-to-your-undies moment on the beach in her new film, Couples Retreat.

Davis – sporting tiny, lacy unmentionables – more than holds her own against co-stars Malin Akerman, 31, Kristin Bell, 29, and Kali Hawk in that scene.

What about her male counterparts in the film?

    swingers

Well, let’s just say Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau – at 39 and soon-to-be 43 – look like a lot of other middle-aged guys we know … guys who’ve been no strangers to a good brewski and burger. They’ve let themselves go a tad since their Swingers days in 1996 – especially Vaughn.

That’s cool and their choice. Maybe they prefer relaxing and indulging instead of hitting the gym and scarfing salads. And it’s not like they’re hideous now – they’re still cute.

But it’s funny how it’s no problem for them to continue to be movie stars, flaunting their burly, naked torsos across America’s cineplexes. Can you image a female celeb being accepted in the same physical condition? She’d be ripped to shreds.

Makes me wonder: When will we be seeing extreme close-ups of men’s dimpled thighs in our supermarket checkout line? Think Star magazine will be coming out with the male version of its “55 Best and Worst Beach Bodies” issue anytime soon?

Have Vince and Jon let themselves go?
