The Fall For the Arts festival at the Arsht Center in Miami was a great success. Over a hundred cultural organizations were represented with handouts and offers. On stage, bands played and people enjoyed delicious food from a huge variety of vendors. The day was hot but so was the festival! WPBT2 was there and here’s some of what was going on:
Vincent Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait, on loan from the National Gallery of Art, is part of an exchange of masterworks with the Norton Museum of Art, which will offer a Gauguin from their own collection painted at about the same time as the Van Gogh portrait in exchange, for the touring exhibition on the work of Paul Gauguin. Hearst Curator of Education Glenn Tomlinson explains the significance of the Van Gogh and the relationship between the two artists from the gallery at the Norton Museum of Art, where the Van Gogh will be on display for just a short time.
The Mosaic Theatre in Plantation begins the new season with the latest entry in the “Reduced” Theatre genre. Now setting their sights on Tinseltown, the Reduced Shakespeare Company gives Hollywood more than just a nip and a tuck. They cut through the celluloid and fast forward through movie history, splicing Casablanca, Rocky, Star Wars, Titanic, Avatar, and every other enduring Hollywood moment into the ultimate gag reel.
The production stars Antonio Amadeo, Erik Fabregat and Christian Rockwell and is directed by Richard Jay Simon.

Clive Cholerton, director for the latest production at the Caldwell Theatre, The Comfort of Darkness, discusses the world premiere of this play and the cast, many of whom are new to South Florida audiences. The play opens Aug. 11:
Jack White, guitarist/singer for The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, came alone onto a stage at the White House and played “Mother Nature’s Son”, in honor of Paul McCartney:
Opening Friday, ‘Ramona and Beezus’ stars Joey King and Selena Gomez, respectively, as the title characters.
The actresses discuss the similarities and differences between themselves and the characters they play (Gomez saying she is more like Ramona than that imaginative eight-year-old’s sister) as well as their relationships, on and off set. King, who like Ramona has two sisters, said she now thinks of Gomez as a member of her family.
