By DAN CORCORAN

A Palm Beach County man is doing all that he can to get the attention of Ellen DeGeneres. Renda Writer is a poet who has been struggling for years to share his work on the Ellen show. “It’s a struggle, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done,” said Renda, 33.

Renda said he fell in love with the spoken word as a child, often listening to hip-hop music and later crafting his own unique poetry. He said he always dreamed of getting his words out to the masses. “It’s a goal. And I feel like everyone has to have some sort of a goal in their life, something to focus on,” he said. SunFest shines on Palm Beach County economy

By WPTV   |  SunFest  |  April 28, 2011

By LIZ FLYNN

It’s Palm Beach County’s biggest bash and it’s just getting started in downtown West Palm Beach. SunFest is the largest waterfront music and art festival in Florida. Organizers expect more than 270,000 people to come out to SunFest, bringing with them lots of business and taking home a lot of fun and great memories.

By late Wednesday afternoon, SunFest had set the stage for a great time. For the last week, 2,500 volunteers and about 100 sponsor businesses have been hard at work preparing for SunFest’s opening.

“Our secret ingredient is what we see here: it’s the waterfront,” explained SunFest Marketing Manager Melissa Sullivan. “It’s the most picturesque, most beautiful atmosphere that there is anywhere and there’s no music festival that has anything like that.”

Over the next few days, organizers say SunFest will bring in more than $13 million to the local economy. Many local businesses are eager to be a part of that.
