burt_reynolds_signEditor’s Note: We’ve just started a new series called “New In Town”, where newcomers to Palm Beach County check out the restaurants, bars, clubs and venues that make our home fun. Today, pbpulse.com producer Joshua Nichol-Caddy, who’s been here all of a week, takes a trip to Jupiter’s Burt Reynolds Institute and Museum. If you’ve lived in the area less than six months, and you’d like to contribute, give us a shout at pbpulse@pbpost.com.

More: Address, phone number, directions, nearby dining

With a box of Franzia and a funnel, I can get drunk most anywhere. To fully experience South Florida, other activities must occupy my time.

Something particular to this part of the coast is the Burt Reynolds Institute and Museum. The finest mustachioed actor of the common era grew up in Jupiter, where he still has a house.

The collection of his awards, movie memorabilia and autographed photos (by legends of both sports and screen) is just worth the $5 price of admission, especially if given a personal tour by Carmen, a volunteer who must be in the top 10 (at least) of Reynolds’ fans.

The museum leaves one feeling that Reynolds has had a rather impressive career and wondering about the choice (by either the museum curator or Reynolds himself) to display multiple works (mostly oil paintings) of the actor as a half-dressed cowboy.

It’s a neat little place and well worth a visit.

Isn’t most of the stuff on display from his former Jupiter ranch home in Jupiter farms. He did have a building on the property that was open to the public with a bunch of his works and personal items. Also did a book signing there once.

  5. WENT TO THE MUSEUM..HAD A BLAST…HE HAS HIS ENTIRE LIFE STORY THERE INCLUDING ALL HIS AWARDS, MOMENTOS (HUGE WHITE PIANO) CLOTHES FROM GUNSMOKE, PROPS FROM THE MANY MOVIES ETC. INCLUDING HIS FAMOUS STETSON BLACK HAT FROM THE BANDIT. IT WAS A VERY UPLIFTING EXPERIENCE. THANK YOU…AND CONTINUED GOOD HEALTH AND PROSPERITY IN THE FUTURE. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES.

  6. Scott says:

When I was only 15 (34 years ago) I visited his ranch and met his dad. He let me sit in Burt’s classic Thunderbird and took my picture in it. He was a very nice guy and answered my questions about Burt. I don’t know Burt but he had a nice dad!
