I'm Greek Today proprietor Chris Papas opened his new restaurant in Royal Palm Beach. (Bruce R. Bennett / The Post)
The Greek restaurant boom continues.
The latest addition to the ever-growing list of local Greek eateries is I’m Greek Today (11051 Southern Blvd., Royal Palm Beach; 561-333-4233; imgreektoday.com), a family-run restaurant situated in the space formerly belonging to Naylah.
“The timing was right,” explained owner Chris Papas of his new venture. The former Canadian restaurateur is referring to the fact that Greek food is getting plenty popular locally — think Ouzo Blue in Lake Worth and Palm Beach Gardens, Taverna Opa in CityPlace, Mr. Gyros in Palm Beach Gardens — but there still wasn’t a Greek restaurant of note in the western communities. Plus, Papas was able to move into a space that was already fairly well-suited for his concept.
“We’ve done a cosmetic makeover. It’s a similar space with the elimination of a wall here and there,” he said of the transition from Naylah to I’m Greek Today.

In the year since he opened Pita Grille (12100 U.S. 1, North Palm Beach, 561-630-0115, thepitagrille.com), Adib Salloum has established his restaurant as the go-to place for Middle Eastern food in Palm Beach County.
That should perhaps come as no surprise since Salloum has been one of the proprietors behind the successful Middle East Bakery (327 Fifth St., West Palm Beach, 561-659-7322), a longtime mainstay for honey-soaked desserts and other goodies.
But with a background that has included everything from a stint running a Norwegian restaurant at Walt Disney World to owning pizza places in Boston, Salloum knew he could offer something beyond falafel and hummus.
So, he’s recently been tweaking his menu to feature more dishes with a distinctly modern and Mediterranean flair. He’s also brought aboard a Lebanese-born chef, George Frieje, who has spent much of his career cooking in high-end establishments everywhere from Florida to Stockholm, including a recent stint at Palm Beach’s Café L’Europe.

California Pizza Kitchen's Original BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad is a good complement to the pizza.
Figs by Todd English may be the new culinary hot spot at this popular mall (thegardensmall.com). But it joins a list of other fine places to eat. Here are five favorites:
California Pizza Kitchen: Todd English may put figs and prosciutto on his pizzas, but the folks at California Pizza Kitchen also make some pretty daring (and tasty) pies — try the Thai chicken. Located in the food court. (561) 625-4682; cpk.com.
Ruby Tuesday: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. No chain does a better salad bar than Ruby Tuesday. Located on the lower level near Sears. (561) 694-7909; rubytuesday.com.
The Greek Jalapeno: Our favorite quick-bite spot in the food court. As the name implies, it offers Greek (think gyros) and Mexican (think burritos) — and does a surprisingly good job with both. (561) 630-4647.
Nordstrom’s Café Bistro: A treasure of a casual eatery, tucked inside the store. Go for the first-rate sandwiches and surprisingly hearty entrees. (561) 340-2100.
Williams Sonoma: Not a restaurant, but this purveyor of kitchen tools also has a great selection of gourmet foods (love the margarita mixes!). And they usually offer samples. Located on the lower level between Nordstrom and Saks. (561) 799-2425; williams-sonoma.com.

Like so many Greek-Americans, John Kaplanidis grew up in a family of restaurant owners. And when it came time to make his own mark in the world, he naturally gravitated to the business, running eateries of all kinds, from pizzerias to coffee shops, in his hometown of Boston.
So what did Kaplanidis and his wife, Yianna (a fellow Greek with restaurants in her blood), do when they moved to Palm Beach County five years ago?
Naturally, they went into real estate.
