Some winning bidder will soon be cruising life’s winding road in Sheryl Crow’s 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster.

The Grammy award-winning singer said Monday that she’s auctioning off the classic car next month and that the proceeds will go toward helping rebuild the tornado-ravaged city of Joplin in her native state of Missouri.

Crow says she loves the car and has had it for six years, but doesn’t drive it anymore.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Crow hopes the car will fetch up to $500,000 at the Aug. 21 auction in Pebble Beach, Calif. But she says she’d be happy if it raises $100,000.

Crow was a schoolteacher before launching her singing career, and the money will go to the Joplin Schools Recovery Fund.

Rock singer Scott Stapp was among the celebrities lending a helping hand to earthquake victims and since he’s come back from Haiti, he said he’ll never be the same.

“It was a life-changing experience. I’ve never quite experienced anything close to what I saw there,” said the lead singer of Creed during an interview Monday.

Stapp, 36, also a Palm Beach County resident, returned Friday night from the weeklong trip on behalf of his charity, With Arms Wide Open Foundation.

Clay Aiken at Mirasol: Golf, inclusion and fatherhood

By Leslie Gray Streeter   |  American Idol, Benefits, Breaking news, Celeb Stalker, Gossip, Sightings, TV  |  February 01, 2010

In 2008, I had a chat with “American Idol” finalist, Broadway star and all-around big famous sensation during his first annual Golfing For Inclusion benefit at Palm Beach Gardens’ Mirasol Country Club, for what was then called the Bubel-Aiken Foundation. He was there to help raise money for the foundation’s goal of providing opportunities for kids with disabilities to attend camp, but not to share his mad golf skills, because he apparently doesn’t have any.

And today, at the third annual golf event to benefit what is now called the National Inclusion Project, Clay revealed that after three years and a couple of clinics with golf pro Wayne Player, his game…still has no game.

Super fun: Map pinpoints parties, more

For the past several months, Bob Miller has played a key role in staging this year’s South Florida-hosted Super Bowl. But his efforts don’t involve anything remotely related to the showdown next Sunday between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts at Sun Life Stadium.
Instead, Miller is fixing homes in a neglected Miami neighborhood.

“I won’t even be going to the game,” says Miller, who chairs Rebuilding Together Miami, an organization that’s partnering with the National Football League on this community-minded venture. Read the full story

Grim-faced celebrities and musicians with mournful tunes set the tone for the all-star, international “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon, which featured two hours of desperate pleas for an even more-desperate nation. But it ended on a hopeful note, with a buoyant call for Haiti’s revival by native son, Wyclef Jean.
“Enough of this moping man, let’s rebuild Haiti, let’s show ‘em how we do it where we come from!” Jean shouted after singing the slow song “Rivers of Babylon,” with a Haitian flag around his neck.

He segued into the joyful tune “Yele” with an island beat, as musicians danced around him, singing the refrain: “Earthquake, we see the earth shake, but the soul of the Haitian people will never break!”
It was a stark contrast from the opening of the telecast: no words, simply photos of Haiti’s tragic citizens as a backdrop, as Alicia Keys called for the help of angels in somber tune. Read the full story

LOS ANGELES – A court commissioner overseeing a conservatorship for Britney Spears granted several requests Friday involving her property during a two-hour meeting with the singer.

Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz approved a request to donate a dress to charity that Spears wore to the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. The proceeds will benefit relief efforts in Haiti.

The court also granted her father authority to get rid of some of Spears’ property that was used during last year’s “Circus” tour. The items are described as being “valueless” and occupying several storage containers.

No other changes to the conservatorship were announced during a brief open session after Spears had left the courtroom.

It was Spears’ first meeting with Goetz since the singer concluded a world tour promoting the “Circus” album last year.

Before the hearing, she smiled as she walked in through the back door of the courtroom and stood next to her father, Jamie Spears, and an attorney.

Spears did not speak before Goetz closed the courtroom to the public and reporters, stating that medical and sensitive personal information would be discussed.

Russell Simmons, Art Basel and the power of diamonds

By Leslie Gray Streeter   |  Benefits, Celeb Stalker, Sightings, Style  |  December 08, 2009

Don’t know if any of you guys went to Miami’s Art Basel this past weekend – it’s an annual festival of art and culture featuring selections from galleries and art collections from around the world. I got a chance to go down for one night to a party at the home of promoter and real estate renovator Michael Capponi in honor of music and poetry guru, vegan and yoga practitioner Russell Simmons and the Diamond Empowerment Fund, the organization he created to help disadvantaged people in diamond-producing African nations. He and his former wife, model, fashionista and reality diva Kimora Lee Simmons, are the owners of Simmons Jewelry, and wanted to explore how the diamond industry empowers Africans.

August 1st-Western Executives’ First “SALAD DAYS”
A Delicious Experience of Healthy Eating and Celebrating a Greener Planet (and a little homebrewing as well)

The “Western Executives” is a social club for business owners primarily in the Western communities of Palm Beach County.

Troy Webster, the founder of the Western Executives saw an opportunity to help raise money for a local farm worker’s charity by organizing the first “SALAD DAYS” special event, to be held at the International Polo Club in Wellington, on Saturday, August 1st, 2009.

The event starts at 1:00 pm and ends at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $10.00 in advance (available online) or $15.00 at the door. Vendor applications can be emailed to westexec@earthlink.net.

Residents of the Western Communities are being called to participate and come together in order to support this meaningful fundraising event.

Webster says that the International Polo Club is a perfect place to showcase such a feast for the senses, and he feels that people will support the idea of helping farm worker’s kids with school supplies, while enjoying an afternoon of healthy food and entertainment.

Visitors may bring crayons, pencils, backpacks, calculators and other school supplies for chances to win fabulous prizes.

There will be plenty of food sampling, “Best Salad” competition, demonstration by the local home brewers club, business expo/fair, raffle and silent auction.

The Western Executives volunteer their time and do not get compensation as all profit goes directly to the Farmworker Council, a non-profit local charity.

For more information, call Ingrid at (561) 793 5509
