And they all rhyme!
I kicked off my end-of-2011 weekend with a quick stop over at Mar-A-Lago, or as my husband calls it, “Trump’s place,” for an exciting party hosted by Lamborghini Palm Beach for the launch of the new Aventador. It’s stunning – displayed under a tent with its own lighting like a steel supermodel. It fit in perfectly with the lush pool area of one of the world’s most gorgeous home, and with the smiling, dimpled guy standing near it – Indy winner, “Dancing With The Stars” champ and South Florida resident Helio Castroneves.
“I used to own one!” said the incredibly friendly Castroneves, who obviously knows from fast cars. “I love them – I love the horsepower. The redesign is great.”
Helio, who used to live in Miami but now hangs his hat, dancing shoes and driving gloves in Fort Lauderdale, says he traded in the faster cars for safer wheels with the arrival of daughter Mikaella two years ago. But seeing the gorgeous lines of the Aventador, “I want to get one!”

Kevin James and Willis McGahee on the red carpet for 'Zookeeper'. (Storms Media Group)
Kevin James, the star of the upcoming film Zookeeper, is a big sports fan — he was even an athlete himself, wrestling in high school back on Long Island.
So it’s no shock that he decided to pal around with Willis McGahee on the red carpet in Miami Beach. McGahee shattered records as a running back at the University of Miami before going pro and putting together three 1,000-yard seasons for the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.
James was taking part in the premiere of Zookeeper at the Regal South Beach Cinema. The film stars James as a lonely zookeeper trying to find love who gets the help of some unlikely advisers — his animals. The film opens nationwide on July 8.

Super fun: Map pinpoints parties, more
For the past several months, Bob Miller has played a key role in staging this year’s South Florida-hosted Super Bowl. But his efforts don’t involve anything remotely related to the showdown next Sunday between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts at Sun Life Stadium.
Instead, Miller is fixing homes in a neglected Miami neighborhood.
“I won’t even be going to the game,” says Miller, who chairs Rebuilding Together Miami, an organization that’s partnering with the National Football League on this community-minded venture. Read the full story

(My picks for the TV winners follows)

Writing awards predictions columns every year reminds me of that line Randy Newman sang in the theme for “Monk,” that goes “I could be wrong now…but I don’t think so.” Predictions are just that – a guess based on past patterns, buzz and a whole lot of “Pin the tail on the nominee.”

The people have chosen vampires.
“The Twilight Saga,” ”True Blood” and “The Vampire Diaries” all sucked up trophies Wednesday at the 36th annual People’s Choice Awards.
“Twilight” won four trophies, including favorite movie, franchise and on-screen team for the dreamy trio of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, who also picked up the breakout male actor award.
The undead HBO fable “True Blood” and the soapy supernatural CW series “The Vampire Diaries” were respectively selected as favorite TV obsession and favorite new TV drama. Other winners in categories spanning movies, TV and music included “Inglourious Basterds” as favorite independent movie and Lady Gaga as favorite pop and breakout music artist.

Film festivals,

The Tokyo International Film Festival opened Saturday with stars including Hollywood actress Sigourney Weaver strolling a “green” carpet made of recycled plastic bottles.
The theme of the nine-day festival, which will feature more than 100 movies, is ecology. Films include “The Cove,” a documentary that depicts an annual hunt of dolphins in Japan. Festival organizers added it at the last minute in part because of pressure from overseas.
While the movie has won more than a dozen awards worldwide, it is not among the 15 Japanese and foreign films competing for the festival’s top prize of $50,000.
“The Cove” has provoked outrage over the dolphin hunt in the seaside town of Taiji in southwestern Japan, where 2,000 dolphins are killed every year, mostly for meat.
The film shows fishermen banging on poles to frighten the dolphins into a cove, where they are killed with spears. The cove is closed off by barbed wire, and the movie crew had to film most footage covertly.
