Five smart shoppers share what makes them frugalicious!

By Aime Dunstan   |  Shop Smart, Style  |  May 14, 2010

The Frugalista

JULIA HEGGEN

Age: 29

Profession: Nurse practitioner, St. Mary’s Medical Center

Lives in: West Palm Beach

WHY SHE’S A SMART SHOPPER: I’ve done lots of shopping at Sawgrass Mills lately. I never can go wrong there, and I always make a quick stop at IKEA, too. And of course, I never forget the local T.J.Maxx and Marshall’s. I bought a couple of tees and dresses recently – designer for a deal, although it does require some sifting!

HER LATEST SNAG: I recently did a lot of shopping at the Vero Beach outlet mall. They had Banana Republic, Gap, Polo and Ann Taylor all at discounted prices. They also had a Gymboree and Carter’s outlet for my daughter, Avery. Although this was a bit of a drive, it’s doable if you make a girls day of it.

By Staci Sturrock   |  Shop Smart, Style  |  May 10, 2010

"Like a cheap pair of shoes."

It’s the most stinging insult you can hurl at footwear, whether you’re targeting appearance, fit or even odor.

Adding injury to insult, feet pay the price when you skimp on shoes.

"In large measure, you get what you pay for," says Dr. Dennis Frisch, a Boca Raton podiatrist who is a spokesman for the American Podiatric Medical Association.

Event planner Blair Kirwan takes the $100 clothes challenge

By Amy Royster   |  Shop Smart, Style  |  May 07, 2010

Who: Blair Kirwan, 28, managing partner of It! Weddings & Events, grew up vacationing in Palm Beach with her family. Before starting an event planning business here she worked on the island for C. Orrico and Stubbs and Wootton. She is a founding member of the American Cancer Society’s Palm Beach Rising Stars and a co-chair of the upcoming Town of Palm Beach Centennial Anniversary event.

Her $100 look: Blair prefers "simple, classic clothes" paired with "fun accessories." While her closet does hold some high-fashion (and high price-tag) pieces, such as her enviable white Goyard St. Louis P.M. shopping tote, she loves to find a good deal. Here, she wears a one-piece shorts jumpsuit from Target ($19.99) that is "comfortable, yet preppy because it’s seersucker" and a Liberty of London For Target floral print scarf ($14.99). The Stephen Bonanno sandals, a Palm Beach staple, the Goyard bag, and the bright bangles, are her own. It’s a look she might wear out shopping for more deals.
