“Grey’s Anatomy” is being billed as a musical episode this week, but you won’t see Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh doing a kick line.
“The word ‘musical’ tends to mislead people,” said cast member Sara Ramirez, who plays Callie Torres. “Understandably so. The word ‘musical’ implies that there’s dancing, a lot of jazz hands and some kicks and some turns.”
“Grey’s Anatomy: The Musical Event” will pick up where last week’s show left off with Ramirez’s character injured in a car accident. The episode will be told from her point of view.
Music has always been a big part of the ABC medical drama. Since it premiered in 2005, three soundtracks featuring music by such artists as Tegan and Sara, Ingrid Michaelson and KT Tunstall have been released.

Kevin McKidd, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey’s Anatomy, is making his directorial debut in this week’s episode.
The Scottish-born star talked to Parade.com about his role behind the camera. Plus, details about a special upcoming musical-themed episode.
Taking his turn behind the camera.
“It was great, but it was very nerve-wracking. I worked very hard to be as prepared as I could be. I think it’s very tiring being a director. I suddenly appreciate how good actors have it. They get to come in and say their lines and go home early. The director is there all the time, making all the decisions, preparing everything ahead of time, and then tying it all together. So it’s hard work, but it’s a thing I’ve always wanted to do and it didn’t let me down. I found the process fascinating and I feel very proud to have managed to achieve that.”

David E. Kelley excels at off-kilter legal shows. Steven Bochco is peerless making gritty cop shows. And Shonda Rhimes is top of the line when it comes to populist medical dramas.
However, Rhimes’ latest effort, “Off the Map,” is more M*A*S*H than “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice.” Set in a remote jungle in South America, where the scenery is wanderlust-inducing but disease is rampant and traditional supplies are almost nonexistent, the medicine is more improvisational than textbook. Insects are used to combat gangrene, coconut milk serves as a substitute for transfusable blood, and when you don’t have anesthesia to knock out a patient, a roundhouse right to the jaw does the trick. The episode begins with Meredith back in Dr. Perkin’s office, Kleenex in hand and face full of mascara. After opening up to Dr. Perkins about seeing Derek nearly die she says “it’s good to talk about it” he pushes away her clearance form and tells her they can talk more about that tomorrow. “Oh come on!” Meredith shouts and stumbles out of his office. Her attempt to cry her way back into surgery doesn’t work.
Meanwhile, Cristina is in full panic mode after waking up and realizing she has just married Owen. In an attempt to make her feel normal again he and Teddy convince Dr. Weber it’d be in her best interest to get back into surgery ASAP. Her first surgery is a radical heart surgery for one of Burke’s past patients, Linda. Read the full story

Grey’s Anatomy returned last night for its seventh season with the characters we fell in love with. Gone are the wishy-washy love-sick characters that honestly had me nauseated.
The season picks up a month after the tragic shooting at Seattle Grace where 18 people were shot and 11 people died. We get chilling flashbacks, not only of the mass murder but also of what the doctors have been dealing with and how they’ve been coping. Read the full story

SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
Is it safe to open my eyes yet?
I watched last night’s tense, two-hour shoot-em-up season finale of ”Grey’s Anatomy” cowering behind my hands and my laptop screen, my heart racing and my finger perched nervously over the Fast-Forward button as a grief-crazed gunman wandered the halls of Seattle Grace looking to settle scores.
(OK, seriously, if you haven’t seen this yet and you want to, stop reading here. I’m not kidding. — Ed.)

An ad agency claims that Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey owes money for promoting his auto racing team and brokering a sponsorship deal.
Courthouse News Service reports E-Image Agency filed a complaint against Dempsey Racing, claiming the team has paid E-Image less than $20,000 despite continuing a partnership with Tequila manufacterer El Grado Spirits.
In its federal complaint, E-Image claims it was the only agency authorized to promote Dempsey’s races and El Grado’s Tequila sponsorship, since it brokered the deal. But it claims that El Grado brought other marketing and advertising agencies to a race in Salinas, Calif., to introduce Dempsey Racing to competing ad firms.
E-Image seeks damages for breach of contract, fraud, conspiracy, negligent misrepresentation and other charges.

Katherine Heigl’s tumultuous tenure on “Grey’s Anatomy” may have come to an end.
The 31-year-old actress did not return to the set on March 1, the scheduled end of her maternity leave. Although ABC has not commented on her absence, series creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release Heigl from her contract, according to EW. Heigl, who has had several public spats with producers during her six years on the show, is reportedly wants to leave the show to focus on her film career.
Are you a ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fan? Take the quiz!
In September, ABC president Stephen McPherson blasted Heigl for complaining in interviews that she was forced to work 17-hour days. At the time, Rhimes indicated that big changes are in store. “Eventually, everybody is going to leave the show,” Rhimes said. “So we’re looking at (ways) we can mess with the structure now … Season 6 is about finding the longevity of the show and figuring out if there is a future for this show beyond these characters.”
Heigl has been on maternity since she and her husband Josh Kelley adopted a baby girl in September.
