Ladies’ man Ricardo Bomba is bringing his charms to “The Simpsons,” and it’s all the doing of a hospital operations manager with a vivid imagination.

Peggy Black, 52, of Orange, Conn., won a contest to create a character for Fox’s long-running animated series, with her entry triumphing among the more than 25,000 received, the network said Thursday.

“Rrrri-carrr-do Bomba,” Black said, extravagantly rolling the “R’s” in Spanish-language fashion. “He’s someone that all the women love and all the men want to be.”

Bomba will be introduced in the Jan. 31 episode featuring guest star Chris Martin of Coldplay. The episode had been mostly completed, with a spot reserved for the contest character.

In “Million Dollar Maybe,” Homer Simpson is rushing to meet Marge for a date when he encounters Bomba in the episode that centers on a winning lottery ticket.

Watch out, Homer! Cami from Miami wants to be the new Simpson

By Carlos Frias   |  The Simpsons  |  October 26, 2009

I never set out to create a pretty, peppy, motivational murderess. But Camilla Tannenbaum lured me in, lured me in the way she did Homer Simpson.

“Call me Cami. Cami from Miami,” she uttered with a sparkle in her perfect smile, a wink and a double-cluck of the tongue.

Camilla Tannenbaum is only a figment of my imagination, just as Homer and the gang are Matt Groening’s. But I couldn’t help but to imagine what character I might inject into the Simpsons universe when Fox challenged fans to “Unleash Your Yellow” and create a new member of Springfield as the much-loved series enters its record 20th season.

Forget red.

The arrivals-line carpet leading into Barker Hangar was yellow — appropriate, given the night’s honorees: Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Maggie Simpson, all on hand to celebrate 20 years of The Simpsons. Their series is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and it recently surpassed Gunsmoke as the longest-running American primetime scripted entertainment program.

“You know, it’s really weird,” noted Simpsons creator and series executive producer Matt Groening. “I mean, I thought the show would be successful. But the fact that we’re still standing here some 20 years later and talking about it is very peculiar. But very happy.”

Brace yourself for another Simpsons milestone, as matriarch Marge Simpson appears on the cover of November’s Playboy, as well as in a three-page spread for the adult magazine.

“Well, I talked to Marge today,” said Al Jean, The Simpsons executive producer. “She’s a little embarrassed. She wanted people to know the photo is Photoshopped. It’s really the body of Wilma Flintstone.”
