OPENINGS
Taste Gastropub, 169 N.E. 2nd Avenue, Pineapple Grove, Delray Beach. Chef Allen Susser, once called the “Ponce de Leon of New Florida cooking” by The New York Times, brings his dining destination to Delray Beach. Taste Gastropub, which opened Monday, aims its sights on a local crowd craving soulful, retro dishes and contemporary fare.
The wide-ranging menu pays homage to the local bounty of small farmers and local fisherman, offering bar snacks, charcuterie platters, small plates and heartier fare, including a daily braise (Julia Child’s savory beef bourguignon, anyone?).
The slate-tiled, 125-seat “pub” extends to two dining rooms, a sidewalk café, a rear garden (with waterfall) and three bars serving handcrafted beers and a selection of wines and cocktails.
There’s a candy bar, too. Owner is hotel and restaurant contractor Robert Workens, a Delray resident. Executive chef is Jamie DeRosa, a Susser protégé who went on to work with a constellation of L.A. chefs, including Wolfgang Puck.
Taste Gastropub serves dinner nightly from 6 p.m.-midnight, Sunday–Wednesday, and 6 p.m.-2 a.m., Thursday-Saturday. Lunch and late-night brunch to be announced. (561) 274-4444 or www.tastegastropub.com

Vin 21, local restaurateur Cesare Palazzolo’s new American bistro, is open seven days a week with happy hour from 4-7 p.m. Dinner is served from 4–9 p.m., Sunday–Thursday, and 4-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The menu specializes in made-from-scratch recipes and features classic American bistro items, including a late-night bar menu. Vin 21 also offers monthly tastings and events so wine connoisseurs at all levels can learn and appreciate the different wine offerings and food pairings. (561) 743-7743 or www.vin21barandgrill.com.
