A culinary star is working in our midst.

Top Chef: D.C. contestant Kenny Gilbert has been named executive chef at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens.

In his new role at PGA National, Gilbert will oversee the culinary operations of the entire resort, which includes the Ironwood Grille, iBar lobby lounge, Waters of the World at The Spa at PGA National and other on-site eateries.

“We’re honored to have a chef as talented and highly sought-after as Kenny join the PGA National team,” says Joel Paige, Vice President and Managing Director of PGA National, in a statement. “As the television audience has seen on Top Chef episodes week after week, he possesses tremendous skills in the kitchen, exhibits grace under pressure and shows a strong desire to help other members of his profession succeed.”

Gilbert comes to PGA National from Capella Telluride, a resort in Colorado, where he was also executive chef. He was also the youngest African-American chef to run a Ritz-Carlton Hotel at the Amelia Island location.

He’s no stranger to Palm Beach County either — he has also worked as executive chef at both BallenIsles Country Club in Gardens and the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club and Spa in Jupiter.

That’s exciting! He’s been a favorite for me on the show this season, so I will have to check him out at PGA!

  2. Mike says:

Why the African-American reference? Was that really warranted? Lets try hard and simply appreciate the man for who he is. Jeesh…

I thought the same thing when I read the articlel Mike. He is an exceptional man no matter of his skin color.

  3. wine lover says:

    I agree with Mike

  4. Bob Fowler says:

He’s great to watch cause he has such great kitchen skills and a good sense of humor. I bet this means that at some point he’s gonna get voted off. Had he been voted Top Chef for the season, he’d be busy pursuing book deals and tv offers. Some of the very best don’t make it to the end of the season and PGA’s lucky to have him. I’m gonna keep cheering for him on the show in the meantime.

  5. Keith says:

This guy is a major fraud. He mistreats his fellow chef’s, has been in three different jobs in 5 years. Was escorted off property by security at one club. Man. does he have a lot of people fooled!

    • amanda says:

jealous cuz you can’t boil water, keith?

    • Jan France says:

Keith, I have known Chef Kenny for a few years – I do NOT see him as a fraud. Chef Kenny is a very talented CHEF and a mild nature person. IF and I repeat IF – he was escorted off a property – I would like to hear the other side of the story, I bet there is more to it than you are lending here. You can see what a wonderful person is by seeing him with his daughter.

It is not possible to please ALL the people ALL the time. Looks like your not part of ALL the people. I wish you peace and kindness in your life, it will help you in your daily life.

  6. Mark says:
