The Leopard Martini combines sweet, salty and spicy elements. (Damon Higgins / Palm Beach Post)
This week’s bar: The Leopard Lounge
The scene: The Chesterfield Hotel’s Leopard Lounge — where hand-painted, bare-naked ladies dance on the ceiling and ballroom dancers are tempted to take the floor seven nights a week — is one of those Palm Beach landmarks that locals should visit at least once. Opened in 1926 and recently renovated, the Chesterfield offers live music in the lounge nightly, even during the off-season. So trip the light fantastic or sip an expertly mixed cocktail while taking in the red-gold-and-leopard-print design scheme – the Leopard Lounge is a spot-on destination for diners, dancers and social drinkers.
The signature cocktail: A bold drink befitting its baroque surroundings, the Leopard Martini ($12) is uniquely delicious. Served in a glass rimmed with Old Bay Seasoning, the rum-based drink is slightly spicy and salty (thanks to Tabasco Bloody Mary Mix) and ever so sweet (that would be Harvey’s Bristol Cream talking).
Other noteworthy libations: The Espresso Martini ($12), not unlike a coffee milkshake that gives you a buzz, and the Sour Apple Martini ($12), a more subtle version of the Granny Smith standby. The bar menu spotlights classics like the Rob Roy and Rusty Nail, as well as a selection of scotch, cognac, port and bourbon.
Bar bites: Cheese, crackers and veggies for dipping on the complimentary happy-hour buffet, as well as an all-day casual dining menu that includes the likes of lump crab cake ($16), a selection of spring rolls ($13), Kobe beef mini-burgers and fries ($17) and pizza margharita ($13).
Deals: Happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m. weekdays – 2-for-1 well brand cocktails, domestic beer and house wine, plus a complimentary hors d’oeuvres buffet from 5 to 7 p.m.
