Stuff we love

ONE OF THE MANY SOUTH FLORIDA HABITS I’ve picked up in my 10 years down here is Cafe Bustelo. The espresso is part of my rotation of coffees, and I’ve always loved its smoothness.

A friend of mine let me know about the coffee’s chillier side – Bustelo Cool. Coming in two flavors, Bustelo Cool is trying to fit into a quickly growing retail market of cold coffee drinks, where Starbucks has a huge leg up with its Doubleshot drink.

But to me, Bustelo Cool is a much smoother product with a good balance between the milk and coffee. I tried the Cafe Mocha flavor, and the great thing here is that it’s chocolatey without that harshness that so many mochas made from powders have.

Bustelo Cool also comes in cafe con leche and is available at area stores and local Latin bakeries.

Openings

THE NEIGHBORHOOD SPORTS BAR & GRILL opened in Boca Raton last week, and it sounds like a sports fan’s paradise – personal flat-screen TVs at every table, anyone?

The menu seems promising as well – in addition to the game-day usuals like burgers and Nathan’s hot dogs, there’s grilled salmon, eggplant Parm and almond-crusted dolphin with dark rum butter sauce. The Neighborhood Sports Bar & Grill is at 6450 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton .

The sizzle

POPULAR MIZNER PARK EATERY ZED451 has launched a small plates menu (priced from $10), offering fire-grilled ribeye with balsamic glazed onions, Asian pork belly in five-spice hoisin sauce, rare ahi tuna with miso soy vinaigrette and citrus-dusted salmon.

But ZED fans can rest assured – the “American churrasco experience” is still on the menu, with 16 different meats for $44 per person, including access to the restaurant’s “Summer Harvest” tables of fruit, charcuterie, artisan breads and salads. ZED451 is at 201 Plaza Real in Boca Raton. Call (561) 3-ZED451 (393-3451) or visit www.ZED451.com for information.

THE SPANISH WINE & FOOD EXTRAVAGANZA will transform St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in downtown Lake Worth into a Spanish garden on Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. The Nights in the Gardens of Spain event will feature food pairings enhanced by Spanish wines. The menu will include tapas, paella, croquetas, torta de Santiago and crema catalana.

Wine experts from the neighboring Dolce Vita wine bar will suggest the proper Riojas and Cavas to sip with the Spanish fare while enjoying a live flamenco performance. Tickets, which must be reserved in advance, cost $25 per person and may be purchased by calling the church office, (561) 582-6609 . All proceeds will benefit the programs and services at St. Andrew’s, which is on the northeast corner of North Palmway and Lucerne Avenue.

WINE & ALL THAT JAZZ! comes to town Aug. 28, presented by The Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce and Southern Wine & Spirits. The annual affair features fine wines, live entertainment and dinner provided by 10 of Boca Raton’s finest restaurants. The event is from 7-9 p.m. at The Boca Raton Resort & Club’s Mizner Center, 501 E. Camino Real in Boca Raton. Admission is $50, with VIP tickets priced at $100. Call (561) 395-4433 or visit www.bocaratonchamber.com/events for tickets and more information.

CHEF KENNY GILBERT’S new menu is here. The Top Chef contestant and new executive chef at PGA National has unveiled a tempting array of dishes at the resort’s Ironwood Grille, with a focus on sustainable organic foods.

Appetizers include Ahi Tuna Poki, with cucumber carpaccio, miso sour cream and curry oil ($13) and a Caribbean Lobster Salad with coconut habanero dressing ($18).

Entrees include an ample selection of steaks and chops as well as other dishes that reflect Gilbert’s exalted international comfort cuisine.

The PGA National Resort & Spa is at 400 Avenue of the Champions, Palm Beach Gardens; (561) 627-2000; www.pgaresort.com

Hi Edward, you can find them at local Winn-Dixies and Latin food establishments. I found one at the Tulipan just down Belvedere from the Post building.
