STUART — It can be hard to find new words to describe a sandwich shop. There are only so many combinations of bread and meats and cheeses, after all.

But all turkey sandwiches are not equal.

Armed with the same ingredients, some delis just shine brighter than others.

Take the turkey bacon cheese hoagie (or TBC), at Bob’s Gourmet Deli ($6.95). Soft bread, some shredded lettuce, thinly sliced onion, and a smear of mayonnaise are all it takes to make this sandwich an enduring classic.

My dining companion has been ordering the TBC at Bob’s for more than 15 years, and they’ve been serving it for 35. The beauty is that in more than three decades the location on Kanner Highway and the people making the sandwiches haven’t changed either. Good quality is something that follows naturally.

Three generations of the Farrell family are running the shop. With a teenage grandson poised to join the team, it could soon be four.

I’d feel guilty about ordering the same thing as my guest, so I decided to try Bob’s seasonal special: the turkey feast ($6.95). An homage to Thanksgiving leftovers, the sandwich featured a thick stack of turkey, cold stuffing, and cranberry sauce for a kick of sweetness.

The green salad is a must ($1.75), a vinegary mix of chopped bell pepper, celery, cucumber, and tomato with some olives and peperoncini tossed in. The potato salad is good, too ($1.75).

For dessert, Bob’s offers several flavors of homemade pudding. We noticed a fresh batch of butterscotch in the display case, and took home some ($1.29). The flavor was a bit too intense for me, but the consistency was divine. Maybe I’ll go with chocolate next time.

The Farrells didn’t plan to stay long on Kanner Highway when they first moved in, expecting to build their own building eventually. But when business took off, they decided to stay put. They must have sensed their deli would soon become a landmark.

Here’s to 35 more years.
