Alice Waters

American farm-to-table pioneer Alice Waters (Chez Panisse, Berkley, Calif.) tweeted her kudos to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers Thursday, after the coalition successfully lobbied grocery chain Trader Joe’s to pay a penny more per pound of Florida tomatoes picked.

"Congratulations to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers @ciw for their incredible determination in knowing they are on the side of justice," Waters wrote via Twitter.com.

Trader Joe’s opened its first Florida store in Naples Friday and has been courted in recent days by West Palm Beach city officials to open a store here.
