It’s Memorial Day Weekend, which means you’ve probably got a long three days of grilling burgers in front of you. But let’s say you’re not the slave-over-a-hot-grill type.
Here are 10 places that we recommend for a good burger. This isn’t meant to be a definitive list, and, no, Mickey D’s ain’t on the menu, though some other chains are.
And what a way to celebrate the end of National Hamburger Month, too!
FIVE GUYS: This is a chain restaurant that specializes in one thing: Burgers. Well, burgers and fries. And they’re both excellent. We know, we go there a lot. 1320 Legacy Ave., Legacy Place, Palm Beach Gardens. (561) 625-3888.
HAMBURGER HEAVEN: Diner-style food in Palm Beach, of all places, and their cheddar cheeseburger even has the swells raving. 314 S. County Road., Palm Beach; (561) 655-5277.
HURRICANE CAFE: Highly recommended: the deliciously juicy Half-Pound Hurricane Burger. 14050 U.S. 1, Juno Beach; (561) 630-2012.
DOC’S ALL AMERICAN: One of our favorite places for old-style ’50s dining, and that includes burgers. 10 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach; (561) 278-3627.
P.J.’S BISTRO: A menu of burgers that goes well beyond the usual beefy kind (buffalo burger with smoked yellow tomato relish, anyone?) 235 S. U.S. 1, Tequesta; (561) 746-6636.
J.J. MUGGS STADIUM GRILL: A family-friendly sports bar in the perfect setting — it’s just opposite Roger Dean Stadium in Abacoa. Check out the half-pound Stadium Burger. 1203 Town Center Drive in Abacoa Town Center, Jupiter; 561-630-9669.
BRASS RING PUB: This place takes the brass ring when it comes to burgers. Everybody raves about its burgers, especially our Beer Guy, Dan Oliver. If you can find an eatery that serves a fresher, juicier and more satisfying burger, it’s probably got a couple of cows out back. 200 U.S. 1, North Palm Beach; (561) 848-4748.
DUFFY’S SPORTS GRILL: The local sports-bar chain offers up good, two-fisted burgers. It has a lot of other pub grub, but we go back for the burgers. Locations in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Greenacres, Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Port St. Lucie, Royal Palm Beach, Stuart, West Palm Beach. (Also recommended for burgers: the Park Avenue BarbQ chain, with locations in Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, North Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Wellington, Stuart, and Tequesta.)
GREASE BURGER BAR: The new burger joint on the block in downtown West Palm Beach, it offers up everything from organic burgers to brew burgers. 213 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. (561) 651-1075.
CHEESEBURGERS AND MORE: This place is both a family arcade and a fantastic burger joint, with quarter-pounders that are enough for two. 6779 W. Indiantown Road, Jupiter; (561) 575-9490.

I can’t believe that, “La Perrada del Gordo” was not included here. Take a look at this burger! http://laperradadelgordo.net/aboutus.aspx (you may need to use the button to advance the image)
You forgot Bradley’s.
I had a burger yesterday at Pyros on lake worth road. ORGANIC Burger for $2 and delicious friend for a buck. YUM! I dont know if they do it all the time but wow! Def cehck it out!

By far the best burger (and fries) in town is at Pyrogrill in Wellington and Lake Worth. At $2 for their gourmet burger and a buck for fries, it’s the best.
I am not huge chain fan but Outback is one of the best you will find!!!! Also, Backstreets in Wellington is awesome too.
Hello, Palm Beach Post!
Must all the places with delicious burgers be those where you have to be served by a waiter or waitress???? How about Char Hut on Royal Palm Beach Blvd in Royal Palm Beach??? They just opened their first location in Palm Beach County (aren’t we lucky?) in February after being in business in Broward County for over 30 years. $7.09 gets you their “Charbuster Combo”—that’s a double charburger with cheese, fries and drink. I eat it at least once a week. I’ll bet any Post staffer who considers themselves to be a burger conoisseur will find Char Hut’s burgers better than any of those listed above!
I went to Pyrogrill in Lake Worth yesterday too! The PyroBurger is Definitely the Best burger in town! I’d pay any price! I am pretty sure it’s part of their menu now. Yum!
Char Hut is way over priced for a fast food restaurant and can not be compared to any of the places listed. I do have to say they do have a unique concept though.
The Organic PyroBurger at Pyrogrill is by far the best burger I have ever tasted. I could eat it everyday.
The Brass Ring does have great burgers…but the service seems to be leaving something to be desired. Duffy’s has great burgers. I hear Five Guys is good, but can’t confirm that because I’ve never been. The Thirsty Turtle in Juno also has some very tasty burgers.
Ok, here is a spot that has been missed by some… Barrymores Bar &
Grill in Jupiter Bluffs Shopping Center. Their “classic” burger is exceptional- quality prime meat, nice presentation and goes down well even with a few cold beers. Place is not too crowded (like brass ring). Give a shot you will be surpirsed. I think fridays is $5 for it too. The turtle is good too, as is Duffys, but this one is a bit better. Going to try Heaven and Char Hut soon.
CHECK OUT BOCA ALE HOUSE. TWO FOR ONE 2- 4- 1 1/2 POUND STEAKBURGERS FOR $6.95, FRIES LTO BIG PICKLE WOW!!!!
Barrymore’s is in my neck of the woods. I’ll have to give their burger a try. I know their steaks are great.
What about Hamburger Heaven? Maybe the oldest and Yummiest!Plus they have the sweet pepper relish, like no other!!
Well, maybe I just lucked out, but I had an excellent cheese burger at FLANIGANS, a chain in south Florida. I prefer my meat where the cow has just WALKED by the fire. Naturally it’s become increasinly difficult to get it prepared this way. However, FLANIGANS came through. The Silver Screen [now closed] also had a terrific burger. Both of the above in Wellington, where I live.
NOTE: Stay far away from Fuddruckers – not good.
Also, if you like your burger cooked anything LESS than medium-well, forget about visiting DENNY’S.
One last thought………I see that someone RAVED about “5 GUYS”. From the review I read, I was clearly given the impression that [like DENNY'S, in my previous post], they do NOT prepare anything less than Medium, which to me is unacceptable; so to avoid confusion, I always ask ahead of time.
So…what did the pyro place have all its employees make a comment? Cute! Anyway, Five Guys blows all these places out of the water. The thing everyone forgets…they do it quickly, you don’t have to wait for 20 minutes like most places that serve a good burger. They do everything well-done…but they keep it juicy so it doesn’t taste well-done. The place is for real. I hit the boynton and wellington locations the most. Boca, I am told is on the way. Boom!
One major omission: Foster’s Grille. It’s on Southern Boulevard in the Southern Palm Crossing west of 441, the same plaza as Costco. The burger is amazing, cooked to order, and the fries are the best I’ve had in Palm Beach County. That said, I’ve got to try the new Char Hut — it used to be a great spot in Broward.
I have had the opportunity to have a burger from nearly all of the places mentioned above. In my opinion, the only one that does not deserve mention in this list is the burger from Five Guys. If you include them, then you might as well add Wendy’s and Burger King to the list since it is just fast food burger with a higher price point. I became concerned about the quality of their ground beef when they told me that this $5 burger has to be cooked well done. For my money, The Brass Ring Pub is still the one to beat, although be prepared to wait.
Agreed! Five Guys is Gross!
The Brass Ring has a pretty good burger, the service isn’t perfect but I still like it.
Pyro does have a really good burger, tried it the other day.
haven’t been to Bradleys in a long time, so I’m not sure about that… but J Alexander’s in PGA does make a great Veggie Burger. kind of off topic but it’s good.
Five Guys cooks everything right in front of you…how can there be any concern about thier product. It always blows me away that people aren’t smart enough to figure out why a shop like Five Guys has to cook everything well-done…they are cooking more burgers that anyone else! Can you idiots imagine what a disaster it would be if Five Guys, which is busy all the time, cooked to temp. Thier burgers don’t even taste well done, they are so juicy, which shows how good thier meat really is. There is a reason that there is a line anytime you go into the PGA, Boynton or Wellington locations…cause they are awesome. Anyone who doesn’t like Five Guys should not be allowed to eat meat anymore.
Too bad the Char Hut closed. That place was good but in a hard to find location. Sad.
I am a true die hard foodie, who loves great food and wine and loves to cook all the time. I have to say that this place has the absolute best burger my hubby and I have ever had hands down! I actually think it’s one of the yummiest things I have ever eaten…. I mean really… the yummiest! I had a traditional cheese burger with cheddar and my hubby had the black and blue burger….they were both cooked to perfection(medium and medium rare of course). They were all a burger should be….tasty, fresh and super juicy. We had an order of onion rings with our beers before the burgers, which were just as great and not to mention they have a nice assortment of beer on their beer menu. The fries….. well…. yuuuumy. I can’t say enough about this place. They truly respect a great burger and make it to perfection and the service was just as fantastic. If you love a great burger you MUST…. and I mean MUST try this place! It will not disappoint.
oops….i was so excited talking about that best hands down burger my hubby and I have ever eaten that I forgot to tell you which one….. it’s Grease on Clematisstreet in downtown West Palm Beach.. :)
Brass Ring PUb hands down – If you are looking for originality and character and a unique place – this is it! Good to know we still have bars out there that do not prescribe themselves to a corporate model – its rough service, yet shomehow charming and refreshing – be quick or be skipped! — I’ve gone for years now and the service is great – it just has character – the burger, forget about it – a dream – and how about they are the only bar to replace your beer mug with a fzrozen one every 5 minutes – a gem of a place – well guarded secret thats a must see-
