MENU

Chat up the antique and art shop owners in funky Northwood, West Palm Beach’s answer to downtown Lake Worth, and someone’s likely to start gushing about the food at the Sunset Bar & Grill. Come for the chef’s specials or choose from an eclectic dinner menu that includes a New York strip steak ($29), sesame tuna with Asian vegetables ($19), or chicken Marsala ($18). Don’t skip appetizers or dessert. Lunch and bistro menus offer burgers and sandwiches.

ATMOSPHERE

Finally, a quiet reprieve from the theme-parkish atmosphere of the crowded megaplexes where so many South Florida restaurants cluster. Here, locals gather at the big wooden bar inside. Grab a table outside if the weather’s nice, and take your time.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

We started with the spring rolls ($8) and then ordered the crab cakes with Key lime sauce ($22) and the grilled mahi-mahi ($18). The crab cakes come without filler and both entrees were perfectly paired with delicious vegetables and sides.

REASON TO GO

First-rate food and service.

SERVICE

In three recent visits spaced about a month apart, we’ve had two waitresses, each of whom remembered both our names. Believe me, that’s a first.

NOISE LEVEL

It’s a small place, but the noise level is low.

KID FRIENDLY

There’s nothing on the menu aimed at kids, but it’s not so stuffy a place that you can’t take them along.
