MENU

Tonino’s opened this spring with a menu that includes New York-style pizza, pasta and baked dishes like manicotti and parmigiana. There are also nearly 20 different kinds of sub sandwiches, as well as combo specials that offer several entrees for $14.95.

ATMOSPHERE

Next to the Perky Pelican just west of the bridge to Jupiter Island, Tonino’s looks like the kind of unfussy pizza place you’d find on the Jersey Shore. The inside is small but well-decorated, with paintings of scenes from Italy.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

Everything was good, but I was most impressed with the vegetarian pizza ($15.95 for the 18-inch). The crust was perfectly crisp, and it was buried in spinach, broccoli, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and black olives.

REASON TO GO

New York style pizza at its best. The owner is a veteran of several pizza restaurants, and the result is a perfect pie.

SERVICE

The friendly owner introduced himself the minute I walked in, and even offered to help me carry the pizza boxes to my car.

NOISE LEVEL

Pop music played on medium volume when I stopped in at lunchtime.

KID FRIENDLY

Absolutely. The kids’ menu has pasta dishes for $4.95, and this is a great place to take the family after a day at Hobe Sound Beach.

We ate at Tonino’s about a month ago and the pizza was very disappointing. It took nearly 45 minutes to get to our table(they weren’t busy) and was way overdone and the crust wasn’t worth eating for fear of breaking a tooth — without exaggeration. We didn’t complain. If they were pizza experts then they should have seen that it was way overcooked and either said something or cooked us another one. Not a very good impression and no enticement to visit them again. Hopefully they have learned how to cook pizza better since then.

We have eaten at Tonino’s several times, both dine in and carryout. Each time we have been personally greeted by the owner, and had a excellent meal. The pizza was some of the best that we have had in a long time. The last time that we dined in, they were busy, yet we were served very quickly and had great service! We will definately go back!
