cinnamon_and_star_aniseI know you’re going to be skeptical. I challenge you to open your cabinet or drawer where you keep dry spices, open a couple, and sniff. Can you actually discern which one is which herb or spice?cinnamon_sticks

They lose their aroma and flavor quickly. Five-year-old herbs are useless. Even three years is too long for most herbs.

I know times are tough. But you’re probably eating out less, and wishing your own home cooking had, well a little more zing.

That’s where Penzeys comes in. They are a catalog and online store that sells high quality spices, often much more powerful than spices that have been on grocery store shelves (or in your house) for years.

Case in point: Penzeys cinnamon. It is SO much more cinnamony than cheaper cinnamon, that I use half as much, saving money.

I also order from Penzeys with two friends from work, saving on shipping. Penzeys sells several sizes of each herb, spice and spice mix, so you can buy the perfect amount, avoiding waste.

But the biggest reward is the boost in flavor their herbs and spices give. Check out the vast selection here.

My favorite is (to quote Penzeys) “Extra Fancy Vietnamese Cassia Cinnamon. The highest quality, strongest cinnamon available in America today. Extremely sweet and flavorful. Use 2/3 what recipe calls for. Since the trade embargo with Vietnam has been lifted, this wonderful cassia has become available.”

Trust me, your spices are old and tasteless.
