Photos: Maya, an endangered jaguar cub

Maya, an endangered jaguar cub, was born Oct. 28, 2008 and calls the Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park her home.
My, my, how Maya has grown!
From 21-ounce newborn to 73-pound adolescent.
From shy mama’s girl to fearless iguana stalker.
From cuddly cub to quick study.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Palm Beach Zoo’s most popular resident — Maya the jaguar — will celebrate her first birthday.
“She’ll get even more attention than she normally gets,” said Keith Lovett, the zoo’s director of living collections. “And that will suit her incredibly well.”
While zoo visitors are invited to enjoy “cub” cakes Wednesday, Maya will tear into a birthday piñata filled with her favorite treats at 10 a.m.
Visitors also can sign a birthday card for Maya and view her baby book.
And, from Wednesday to Nov. 28, anyone whose birthday is Oct. 28 will get free admission to the zoo, and once a day, the zoo will give away one family membership.

Happy Birthday, Maya!
