The lure of the sweet dough and the powdered sugar is strong. Sure, it’s about as nutritious as a sock, but funnel cakes are your favorite food at the South Florida Fair.

Funnel cakes were the clear winner, with 24.6 percent of the vote, easily outdistancing corn dogs, which took second place at 11.5 percent.

Gyros were in third at 8.1 percent, while funnel cakes’ fried-dough cousin, elephant ears, ended up fourth at 7.4 percent.

Rounding out the top five was barbecue at 5.5 percent.
