After Spider-Man 4 was scrapped due problems with the script, the powers that be decided to move the franchise in a different direction and announced a reboot of the series earlier this year.
Garfield, 26, is a relative unknown, but has appeared in Terry Gilliam’s Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and a handful of episodes of British sci-fi series Doctor Who. Garfield also was directed by Robert Redford in the political drama Lions for Lambs and has a role in the upcoming The Social Network, a David Fincher-directed film chronicling the rise of Facebook. Garfield was born in L.A. but grew up in England.
