American Idol had a sorrowful ending last night as judge Jennifer Lopez broke down in tears after sending contestant Chris Medina home.

Chris Medina won the hearts of many Idol fans in Milwaukee when he brought his girlfriend, Julieanne, to meet judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson. Julieanne was left wheelchair-bound and with severe brain trauma after a car accident, but Medina stayed by her side and the two are now engaged.

Lopez recognized Medina’s talent, however, she regrettably had to tell him his performance just wasn’t strong enough to make it to the Top 24. He took the news well and, as he left the stage, he bid each of the judges and host Ryan Seacrest goodbye with a hug.

J Lo, on the other hand, began crying as Medina left the room and worried that she "didn’t tell him in the right way." She finished the show, still with tears in her eyes, by saying she "doesn’t want to do this anymore."

Medina will be performing on The Tonight Show on Friday.
