default-redmond-onealRedmond O’Neal says he is finding inspiration from his mother, Farrah Fawcett, in his battle to stay sober.

The 25-year-old son of Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal went before a judge Wednesday for a status hearing regarding his court-ordered drug rehab. O’Neal told L.A. Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan he was on the right track, according to People. “I’m doing great. I am focused on my recovery and plan not to let anything get in the way,” he said. “I am doing my best to make my mother proud.”

O’Neal was arrested in January 2008 while on probation. Following O’Neal’s statement Wednesday, Judge Tynan reiterated the challenges he faced. “Right now, pal, you are still in trouble,” Tynan said. ‘”You need to take a good look inside or nothing will ever change.” After the hearing, O’Neal’s lawyer said the judge gave him a good status report. “[He] is keeping a careful eye on him,” attorney Richard Pintal said. “Redmond is still facing a tough road, and today he got some tough love.”

Fawcett died last summer after battling cancer. O’Neal was released from prison to attend the funeral.
