Lake Park’s Mos’Art Theatre is the very model of a multi-use space: Its colorful walls house an art gallery, a church, a live performance venue and what is now the only independent movie theater in northern Palm Beach County.

What’s more — it’s crazy affordable, with $6 regular tickets and $5 matinees.

Recently, they’ve had movies about light romance (Love N’ Dancing, which also featured a live talk with the film’s producer), an inspirational Senegalese singer (Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love) and a guy who just wants to find a part for a car (Lake Tahoe).

You get interesting, out-of-the-ordinary films and the knowledge that in this economy, you’re helping out a local business and, perhaps, sticking it to The Man. And it’s nice when you can do that for six bucks.

This a great place to check out. They have awesome indie films at great prices as well as free wifi and tables and couches for chilling out. I’m going to check out the Manhattan Short Film festival going on later this month.

I love the Mos’Art. Sneaking into that cool darkness in the middle of a hot, bright day, and watching a film is the ultimate escape. The very atmosphere helps me to really watch the film. You can’t get this kind of entertainment or enjoyment from a DVD.

Media headlines emphasize drug and alcohol abuse among youth, teen pregnan- cy, the rise in youth gangs, or school dropout rates and often leave it at that. ,
