Too many liberties were taken with the originals here, and in no way improve upon them, it only barely resembles either of Carroll's books in theme and some specific scenes. There are some "Disney moments" that literally set off a gag reflex as well. Personally, I'd love to see some stronger films make their way into the public consciousness... and if a movie that hits these standards reaches our area, it'll definitely be mentioned. (I mean, seeing Red Cliff at the Mos'Art was definitely an experience. And my wife couldn't stop raving about Bright Star -- why it isn't getting nominated for awards, I'll never figure out.) It seems like the SoFla winter audience skews older, so if you can't dig out something of quality to write about, do you really think the people who watch the kinds of movies you highlighted above, are going to bother reading about the remakes and comic book stuff reviewed? I think you'd be better giving mature readers some adult fare, because otherwise I think you're shorting your market. (Ask yourself: if I wasn't paid to review this, would I be reading about it in a ... newspaper? Even an online newspaper?
