Among the Palm Beach International Film Festival's movies this weekend are 'Je T'aime, I Love You Terminal', 'Turkles' and 'Refuge'.

The annual celebration of film, entertainment and education continues today as the 16th Palm Beach International Film Festival rolls along with more screenings of the best features, documentaries and shorts from around the world.

Film festivities for the day kick off at 10 a.m. with the 16th Annual Student Showcase of Films awards ceremony, a juried competition to recognize Florida student filmmakers. The event will be at the Keith C. & Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center at Lynn University in Boca Raton.

More than $10,000 in scholarships and awards in six film categories will be announced. Categories include Feature/Shorts, Documentary, Animation, Commercial/PSA, Music Video, and Audience Award. This year, the live awards show will also feature a special appearance and performance by American Idol semifinalist Brett Loewenstern from Spanish River High School.

Movie screenings begin at noon Friday at the Movies of Delray with Exporting Raymond. The film is a documentary chronicling the story of Phil Rosenthal, creator of the hit TV series Everybody Loves Raymond, in an attempt to translate Raymond into a Russian sitcom. Part intimate journey and part international adventure, Exporting Raymond showcases the unusual characters and funny situations Rosenthal encounters on his mission.

Following the rest of Friday’s films, The Silver Screen Splash event kicks off tonight at 9 with a cocktail bash on the waterfront of The Boca Raton Resort & Club in honor of Academy Award nominee and Golden Palm Award honoree Richard Jenkins. Motion picture visionaries will gather together at this exclusive event to honor Jenkins who starred in films such as Eat Pray Love and Burn After Reading.

Following a full day of films on Saturday, a VIP reception will be held for VIPs, filmmakers and Platinum/Premiere ticket holders. This event begins at 9 p.m. at Olio’s in Delray Beach where patrons will top off the evening with festivities including an exotic car show.

A series of Film Seminars will be held on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Delray Beach Marriott. These educational workshops will give insight into the art and business of filmmaking. Seminars are open to the public.

The 16th Annual Palm Beach International Film Festival regular programming comes to a close with the closing night film presentation, The First Grader at the Movies of Delray on Monday. The wrap party will follow the closing night picture at 9 p.m. at Deck 84 in Delray Beach. The evening will also include the award presentations of the 2011 PBIFF’s Audience Favorite Winning Films.

Living Room Theatres will host The Best of The Fest, Tuesday through Thursday, providing one last opportunity to catch the overall favorite audience films from the Palm Beach International Film Festival. Visit www.pbifilmfest.org or call (561) 362-0003 for screening information.

I wonder if any movies will show on the north side like Lake Park, Palm Beach Gardens or Jupiter, with gas prices it is very difficult to travel to Boca Raton or
Del Ray Beach. Palm Beach County it is not only the South but the whole district.
Otherwise, We will not support it for the next year. Also, the Palm Beach State
College at Palm Beach Gardens, it will be a good site for 2012 site. Think about it.

regarding the comment for the student showcase location
…your case would be the same for those located south not wanting to drive north. rethink.
