293tylersteven052108It’s been a bummer of a summer for fans of Aerosmith and big-lipped lead singer Steven Tyler.

First, the band’s July 13 concert at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise was canceled due to a mystery injury Tyler suffered. Reports suggested it was a pulled muscle.

Now, almost a week after Tyler fell off a stage during a concert in South Dakota, People magazine is reporting that there are several scenarios for his condition, but nobody has spoken to him.

The Associated Press reported that the energetic 61-year-old frontman had minor injuries, mostly to the neck, head and shoulder.

Guitarist Joe Perry, who lives part-time on Florida’s west coast, hasn’t communicated with Tyler since the accident. But he told a Detroit radio station that Tyler’s shoulder blade was broken, and tests are still underway.

“No concussion. Nothing internal,” said Perry. “So it’s like he (was) in a bad bar fight. (Like) somebody had a baseball bat.”

Concert dates following South Dakota were canceled and they haven’t been rescheduled, throwing the rest of the summer tour into doubt. Perry just performed on Sunday with Jane’s Addiction at Chicago’s Lollapalooza, where Jane’s lead singer Perry Farrell sent out “a prayer” to Tyler.

Aerosmith has been having quite an injury-plagued year. Perry had his own leg injury, and guitarist Brad Whitford missed all of the summer tour because of a head injury.

Here’s a video of Tyler’s fall in South Dakota:

So, will Aerosmith be back this summer? Tell us what you think.

There is no chance that this tour will resume. Totally sucks- these guys have the worst luck ever. Hopefully they will come back stronger and better for a tour next spring. They are still the best rock band in America by far.

  2. Greg D says:

Why hasn’t the band or promoter come out and cancelled the tour? Anyone who broke a shoulder won’t be back in a coupleof weeks, especially a 61 year old frail looking man. Is this how Aerosmith treats it’s fans? Keep them in the dark? MAN UP AEROSMITH!

I couldn’t agree with you more – but – it’s the PROMOTERS and the Local venues that are reluctant to cancel or reschedule. Lots of bucks lost there….
STILL it would be decent of them to tell us at least 48 hours before so we could cancel hotel rez and let people know if we’ll be at work or not!
Still holding out for Monday in Auburn,WA! My true opinion – Fat chance! They’re worth waiting for though.

  3. Greg D says:

Oh, BTW, the Rolling Stones are the best Rock band still around. (Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band EVER!)

    • Aerosmith1971 says:

Ahh, he said Aerosmith “are still the best rock band in America by far.” Neither the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin are from America

  4. aerosmith 1974 says:

This article is very misleading. Perry in Detroit yesterday said, “He broke his shoulder blade in two places; there were no internal injuries nor a concussion. The ap as far as I have read, only said he had head, neck and shoulder injuries. they never said his injuries were minor or serious. This is a blatant attempt to sesationalize Steven’s injury. Zep and the stones love aerosmith.

  5. Rick says:

Love this band! I have the 8-track “Toys in the Attic”. :-)
I do wish Aerosmith would make an announce by friday 8/14 regarding the show in Seattle, Some of their fans are flying into Seattle for this concert.

  6. Big Daddy says:

Well, you know, Steve IS 61 years old. When you break bones at that age, the healing process takes much longer, even moreso if you abused your body for years. I remember when my 60 year old granny broke her hip; she was a different woman from that day. I hope that’s not the same with Tyler, but there is a point where rockers have to hang up the Spandex.

Let’s face it, the “best” rock band in America are a really a bunch of geezers whose fans stopped being imaginative or creative in 1980. That’s the last “new” record from Aerosmith–everything else has been a rehash of those old tunes.

In spite of all that, I wish Tyler well and I hope they can keep rockin’ until their final after party is at a mortuary.

  7. the gypsie says:

Aerosmith rocks!!! I wish Steve a speedy recovery.

  8. Jack Kevorkian says:

C’mon, get real… look at that photo — almost the entire left side of his face drops some 3/8″, compared to the right side — “Dude, dude, dude looks like he had a stroke!!” (or is the right side higher, from the Botox??)

    You be the judge!

  9. Mimi says:

I saw Aerosmith in their prime.. 5 times. Loved the energetic shows they’ve put on for years, love their music… heck, I even have a couple 33′s [replaced by digital copies, of course]

But I’m their generation, and know it’s not easy to keep up the energy for grueling touring and shows after years and years of doing it. Maybe it’s time they get off the road, go into the studio and make some new music. I mean, how many injuries can they sustain before someone is crippled?

Let’s be frank, they’ve jumped the shark. I’d rather have my memories of the old days intact, not spoiled.

“big-lipped lead singer Steven Tyler” What kind of stupid description is that? What a lame blog.

  11. hailey says:

i think they will tour agian this summer no matter how injured any one from the band is they love to tour thats why they still do it. if they didnt love to play music and throw concerts and make tours they wouldnt be musicains. and i dont think steven tyler is going to let some fall get in his way of making his fans happy and not dissappointed.

  12. allie says:

saw Aerosmith at Jones Beach in June. Was never so disappointed. Had seen them before and they rocked. This time Tyler was in another world, mostly singing to the back of the stage. This after waiting hours in a rain delay.
ZZtop out performed them that night.
