Earlier today I called “The X-Factor,” FOX’s underwhelming talent competition, on what I thought had to be fishy editing to make Broward mother/daughter duo Dreamgirlz look like non-talents, and the mom’s brother look like a rageaholic, because I’ve heard them both sing in person and knew they were fabulous.

Turns out I was right. Charleze, the mother of the duo, left a long, sweet comment on the blog confirming that not only were they great, but that the audience loved them, and that the judges’ comments were not only inconsistent with reality, but were in some points mean. Simon Cowell can clearly be telling the 15-year-old daughter that her father must have let them because he couldn’t stand to be in the house with them screaming.

‘The X Factor’ Miami spot misleading, whole show underwhelming

First of all, they’re wonderful. They not only got a standing ovation, but the audience chanted “One more song! One more song!” It’s madness! And who says that to a kid? TO A KID? That’s below the belt, Cowell. And to hear L.A. Reid, who I used to love, tell them that even if they sang separately, as Paula Abdul suggests, that they’d never sound better … maddening. Because he has to know he’s lying to the camera.

Ditto Nicole Scherzinger, who says “You didn’t connect with the audience,” as the audience screams “Yes they did!” I think that the reason the video of them singing was edited so much was so the show could lie to the TV audience that they were bad.

It’s pretty awful. But Charleze was gracious about it on the blog, that any exposure was good exposure. She’s a lot nicer than I am.

Good luck wherever you go, ladies. Sorry this happened. And while, again, contestants on these shows know that editing can create a whole new reality … it’s pretty scuzzy to do this to a kid.

Did Dreamgirlz deserve better?

13 Responses to “‘X Factor”s questionable ‘reality’: Simon Cowell insults local single mom on video”

  1. Joe says:

Apparently his plan worked. He’ll say controversial things and the media will give free publicity to his show. It’s genius, and you and the rest of the media are eating from his hands. Doesn’t mean it’s right, but it is very smart.

  2. Janet Kline says:

I have heard her sing a few times, she is brutally bad. Mom has been pumping her as a singer for years now. Simon makes money by discovering talent. Just because you know her does not change her lack of talent.

  3. Kevin from PBG says:

Well if the actual performer said they were great and got an ovation than it must be factual? What are you 12?

    • It’s on the video. There are people standing up and cheering ON THE VIDEO. I would not have written this if I hadn’t watched it. If you don’t like their singing, that’s OK, but the evidence of the audience reaction is right there.

  4. Pamela B. says:

Are you kidding? I just listened to the video and at the 5:15 mark they said awful! Come on now, sounds like the song Barracuda but lord they are terrible!

  5. Loves to sing says:

If anyone can seriously listen to them sing, from about 5 minutes and 30 seconds into that video through 7 minutes and say they are good singers…..wow. Just wow, thats simply not a talented singer. The ‘crowd’ is there to cheer for everyone no matter what as it is a local audition. They were not very good though.

    • Speaking of crowds…isn’t it interesting that every one of these comments is from the same IP address, obviously one person with a lot of time on their hands disparaging strangers under different names?

At least these people have the guts to put themselves out there under their own names.

  6. Tennis Mom says:

This so reminds me of when local tennis parents brag about how good their kid is who won a few local trophies at the local club. Then they show up at a real competitive tournament and get blasted. Perhaps this duo is fine singing at a high school show or local mall, but compared to national level talents they are minor league.

  7. Victoria says:

THEY WERE TERRIBLE! No, not terrible…..I’ve heard a cat sing better when their tail was caught in an engine. It was horrid, and so are they.

This is my REAL name. Hopefully it’s not anyone else’s IP address.

  8. TJ says:

They were ok but not great! I think the judges were fair in their review of them. I didn’t see anyone standing and the people holding the video camera obviously were the comments we could hear.

  9. Charlese says:

Hey! I’m Charlese, the Mom w/the 15 yr old Daughter in Dreamgirlz Miami! Thank You again for writng such a wonderful article! I sincerely loved it, and the other one too! It was a blessing meeting you! You’re an awesome person & an awesome singer!

Regardless of weather it’s Good or Bad comments below your article, it’s ALL Exposure!!! I Thank You & everyone else who supports us. We’ve been doing this a long time & have been around alot in S Fl. We’re pretty well known & we’ve beaten alot of people in local singing competitions, hundreds, & unfortunately, not everyone is as gracious about losing as we are so we DO have many people who don’t like us. It’s OK, it comes with the territory! They could learn a lesson in GRACE from us though. LOL! ;-) Anyways, I;ve come to learn that people LOVE to hate on other people, no matter what the truth is. That’s OK. I LOVE you all anyways! Why? B/c all the haters out there, who are trying to hurt us & knock us down, don’t realize that they are helping us. Their words don’t hurt: “Sticks & Stones”, it’s JUST words! Geeze! What the haters don’t realize is, they are seriously HELPING us become MORE famous so my message & response to them is DON’T STOP! I LOVE it! As long as people keep talking about us, we’re good! It’s when people stop talking about you that you have to worry, LOL. Check out out youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/sfloridasinger God Bless You! And hopefully, we will see you again soon my friend!!!! Maybe at another competition? Either way, it will be a blessing! ;-)
