To me, it seems like the terms “punk band” and “staying power” should be mutually exclusive.

It’s due to the style of punk, the way it seems to burn so intensely and die out quick. It’s as if the bands that play it should be that way too, that they would run out of steam so fast.

But more and more, punk bands seem to have a nearly unmatched record for longevity. Social Distortion is well into its third decade, Bad Religion is too.

And then there’s The Offspring, which seems to have hit the gas right from the start and not let up. The band, which still has original members Dexter Holland, Greg K. and Noodles since their 1985 inception, seems to show few signs of slowing down at all. They bring their new tour to the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre on Saturday.

They released Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace in 2008 and are in the midst of working on their next album, slated for next year.

According to their setlist from New York’s Roseland Ballroom, courtesy of setlist.fm, The Offspring will play a mix of songs from throughout their career, from “Come Out and Play” and “The Kids Aren’t Alright” to more recent songs “Stuff Is Messed Up” and “Kristy, Are You Doing OK?”

Canadian pop-punkers Sum 41 are the opening act at Pompano.

Avett Brothers, Parker Playhouse, Ft. Lauderdale, Sunday: You’d think a rootsy, country-esque band like the Avett Brothers would be about the opposite of The Offspring — a little more laid back.

But some of their songs have punk intensity — the reason being the Avetts’ past in a much more intense band called Nemo. Seth and Scott Avett still infuse their songs with that fire, just using acoustic instruments.
