If you think the greatest time in rock radio history was between the years, oh, let’s say, 1974-1981, then there are two shows with tickets on sale this weekend that you should look into.
First, the Allman Brothers are heading to Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood on Oct. 20.
(And I know — technically, by 1974 the Allmans had already made their most well-known classics: “Sweet Melissa”, “Jessica”, “Mountain Peach Jam” (off the ALBUM Eat a Peach), “Whipping Post”, etc. But they seemed to only get bigger in the mid- to late ’70s…)
Tickets are on sale now.

If you prefer your rock less Southern and more Midwestern, tickets will be on sale Saturday for the REO Speedwagon/Styx double bill at Cruzan Amphitheatre on Oct. 31.
The two Illinois-born bands — REO from Champaign, Styx from Chicago — have toured before to great reception. They even recorded a live album together, Arch Allies, to commemorate an earlier collaboration in 2000.
Also on sale this weekend:
• Rob Thomas will head to Hard Rock Live on Sept. 23. He’s just released his second solo album, Cradlesong, in which he works with more African and South American sounds. Tickets are on sale for the show Saturday.
• Three different kinds of country gentlemen also have tickets either on sale now or will Saturday. David Allan Coe will play no-holds-barred outlaw country on Oct. 30 at Fort Lauderdale’s Culture Room; Travis Tritt has a bit of rebel in him too, and he’s coming to Revolution Live in Lauderdale on Aug. 15; and Pat Green‘s imaginative lyrics and fun will be on display at Revolution Live on Nov. 7.

$150. (plus all the rip-off fees) for Journey? You’ve got to be kidding me, Hard Rock. They bring in great shows, but they WAY overcharge for tickets.
You are right Jeff! I saw Steely Dan there and it was $200 a pop. Jeez…..!
Peach Jam?? Are you kidding me? They never did a song called Peach Jam! Get it RIGHT!
I believe they meant Mountain Jam on the Eat a Peach album- hence “Peach Jam. Yeah, that’s it. But hey, accuracy in journalism when out of style years ago. To much effort to get it right.
Yep. I fixed that — apologies to all. (And to think, my college roommate OWNED Eat a Peach.)
Allman Bros have been the best live band to see since they started touring again in 1989. With Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, and Oteil Burbridge rounding out the line up, this band shines with pure talent. One live show and you will be hooked. Too bad these guys are cutting their annual live shows down to 7 to 10 starting next year.
ABB ripped up Wanee Fest this year two nights in a row and now they will christen the Hard Rock Seminole. Too bad I had to pay $128/ticket for good seats.
