Move over Janet Jackson, there is a new kid on the block. Jordin Sparks is living her dream, appearing for the first time as the headliner and not the opening act.

Sparks kicked off her Battlefield Tour with an intimate show at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale. You could get so close you could feel her excitement, see her contagious smile, almost as if you were on the stage with her.

Sparks’ maturity on stage belies her 20 years. She engages the audience, gets them to be part of the show, and keeps the crowd involved singing and dancing. Her professional stage presence may have to do with being in the limelight way before becoming American Idol’s youngest winner in 2007, winning Coca-Cola’s Rising Star, and America’s Most Talented Kids.

“I didn’t have a lot of expectations. It was worth the wait,” shared Eaton Tyson from Miami, talking about the late start and two opening acts. “It was more than I thought it would be. I wasn’t disappointed.” Tyson, a singer himself, knew all the words to her songs and wasn’t the only one singing along.

Sparks performed music from both of her albums, Jordin Sparks and Battlefield, even allowing her back-up singers to do solos during “No Air”. The combination of her stage presence, her innocence, choreography and supporting band made for a very tight entertaining performance.

Opening act Days Difference had the young girls smiling and lead singer Jeremy Smith showed some skill. On the other hand, Kate Voegele seemed to fall a little flat and her interpretation of “Hallelujah” did not rock the house.
