“The Lincvolt is a heavy metal monster with a better track record than a Prius.” – Neil Young

Go Green. Save our earth. Alternative resources. All new buzzwords swirling in our daily lives as we try to “save our planet”.

The electric car has been out there for a while but as I drive by neighbors’ electric car, the size of a golf cart, my kids snicker and make jokes about never being caught in that. These are the same kids who will have to make big decisions about our planet.

Well, they may not be laughing too much longer when Mom pulls up in her electric mini-van to take the kids to soccer or Dad drives his F-450 truck to work and charges his tools from the battery on the car. Seem far-fetched?

Neil Young showed off his 1959 Lincoln Continental convertible that has been converted to the world’s first Micro-Turbine powered Bio-Electric-Cruiser. This classic car has always been known as a gas-guzzler but this new innovation is on the forefront of allowing Americans to “go green” but keep their love affair with large cars.

Young did not do this alone.

Young may be the big name but he shared how this is a joint effort. He enlisted the support of many sponsors, including Capstone, Oracle Perrone Robotics, Brizio, UQM, and the Hard Rock to develop and put into reality the LincVolt. One day soon, with the help of Perrone Robotics, the car will be able to follow Young on the stage, move with him back and forth, and all by itself.

Laurie Clark was part of the public audience getting a look at this new car. The Clark’s recently sold their baby, a ’72 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, which they had kept for 23 years.

“It just guzzled too much gas. We wanted to do something to help the environment so we bought a golf cart. I do all my local errands with it. We even put the surf boards on it and go to the beach.”

Clark put it nicely: “If everyone did a little part it can become a big difference.”

Young and his group are touring with the LincVolt with the hopes to create interest and increase awareness.

“I want to show what we can do with American ingenuity and American resources”, Young shared.

Neil Young has always been into the environment. “Look at mother nature on the run in the 1970′s”. He has always been my favorite! His music did so much for getting people aware of our planet. He was one of the reasons I started “Save The Earth” in 1972. I think I even got him a “Save The Earth” T’ shirt.

Looks like a Great car! It seems you left out some important information such as, the car can travel unlimited distances utilizing the Capstone Microturbine as a Range extender, gets about 80 mpg on almost any fuel source , biodiesel, diesel, propane, methane, etc.
also no oil changes needed, and super low emissions.
No need to plug into the grid to recharge as the MT charges the batteries while driving.

  3. JET says:

The turbine engine also uses no oil.
It has air bearings and one moving part.
    no oil changes.
This car is way over kill
a engine half the size would work.
So there is even more to come
