The first thought that went through my head as I awaited the inevitable insanity while trying to exit BankAtlantic Center: Linkin Park gave a performance with such unending energy that you did not want it to stop. The 18-song concert more than made up for the headache of getting to the arena with all the traffic, rain, and don’t forget lines, lines, lines.
Thursday’s show was the first of their new tour — A Thousand Suns: World Tour 2011. If the show was any indication of how the tour would be, get ready for a mind-blowing experience. Linkin Park’s ability to mix rap and rock is what helped distance the group from the rest of the mainstream, giving the group their own unique sound. Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda, vocalists of Linkin Park, work in such a cohesive manner that has had millions falling in love with their music from all over. Bennington, Shinoda, Brad Delson (guitarist), Rob Bourdon (drums) and Joe Hahn (turntables/electronics) all worked together to complement their music.
They did not disappoint in Sunrise. Their 18 songs played consisted of music from their entire catalog, through their albums A Thousand Suns, Minutes to Midnight, Meteora and Hybrid Theory and also their popular single “New Divide” from the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen soundtrack.
Beginning the night with “Wretches and Kings”, they had such hype and energy, it instantly had the crowd cheering. “Paper Cut” resulted in screams of recognition followed by an arena singing along with every word. Other favorites included “Given Up”, “Faint”, “When They Come For Me”, “No More Sorrow”, “Waiting For The End”, “Iridescent”, “Numb”, “Breaking the Habit”, “Shadow Of The Day”, “Crawling”, “One Step Closer”, “In The End”, “What I’ve Done”, “Bleed It Out.” The night was full of fist pumping, head banging, and screaming sing-along from the crowd, mirroring the levels of energy of the band. About midway through the show, Bennington had the entire arena singing “Happy Birthday” to drummer Bourdon, adding to the unforgettable moments of this show.
Opening for Linkin Park were Does It Offend You, Yeah? and Pendulum. Does It Offend You, Yeah?, a British group, combined hypnotic beats with crazy lights which gave you the feeling of being in the middle of a rave while sitting in your seat. This band had the crowd linking them with groups such as Prodigy and Glitch Mob. The vocals did seem to drown out in some parts of the songs, but the thumping chaotic beat and randomness of the rhythm made you forget about that little flaw.
Australia’s Pendulum had the crowd going wild with their electro sound, including their song “Propane Nightmares” from their album In Silico. The group’s memorable beats and catchy lyrics had the crowd getting into the music more and more with each passing minute on stage. Their new album Immersion is said to be released on Jan. 25.

I was there FIRST IN LINE, enjoyed the show up against the stage.
It was ridiculously sick, these band is really worth all your effort/money/time you would invest into going to their concert.

How long did you wait in line for at the concert? I am going to the concert in Detroit tomorrow and want to be one of the first people in line. I hope you get this reply soon!! Thanks
skin crawler, its a guitar pick, not peak. are you serious?
I went to the concert & it was awesome. They aren’t like other artist who sound completely different & horrible live. They were astounding & they sound so amazing I could go on forever. There musical talent is not common. I would love to see them again.
How long did the concert last?
around 11:50 PM
Hey, they forgot Phoenix! Aw, come on, bass players are band members too!
The concert at BAC was phenomenal. I love watching LP live, they are so entertaining and always sound great. I didn’t want the show to end.
This show was SICK!!! I loved every minute of it. My absolute favorite was shaking Mike Shinoda’s hand at the meet & greet with all the guys…one moment I will NEVER forget. LP fan for life!!!
What time did LP hit the stage and what time was the show supposed to start?
I am going to the ATL show tomorrow night, starting at 7 pm. I typically skip the opening acts so I am trying to figure out when they will be on stage, so anyone who was there and can confirm it would be greatly appreciated.
@SaintAnger, I’m trying to find out the same info as well. Going to NY show and will be skipping opening acts…can you please post info after ATL show tomorrow? Thanks and have an awesome time!
Hey Amanda,
I found someone on facebook who went to this show and I asked them. They told me that LP hit the stage at almost 10 pm and that the show started at 07:30pm for them, so I am guessing 2 1/2 hours for the opening acts from whatever time your show starts. I will of course update this for ATL later, rock on!
Ok for Amanda and whoever else catches the tour and sees this in the future:
The ATL show started at 07:00pm. I got there at about 9:00 pm, maybe 09:10 by the time we hit our seats. I was told by staff that LP was supposed to hit the stage at 08:50pm.
I am not sure when they hit the stage, but they were just finishing their 2nd song so approx 5 mins/song? I think they were on schedule, maybe they started at 9pm, sounds right. Sucks I missed the opening 2 songs..oh well
Anyway they played pretty much non stop until 11pm. So whatever time your show starts guesstimate about 2 hours after show time starts that LP will hit the stage. Check with your local venue for the schedule (I should have known that, I am not a concert rookie).
My review is that they put on a hell of a show. That was the ~6th time I have seen LP. They put on a great show, especially for a sunday night crowd.
I could tell some of the crowd was not caught up with the new songs but when they played the old stuff everyone was into it. Of course being a die hard fan I was prepared for the new stuff, I had been listening to the new album and setlistfm for the last several days so it was burned in my brain.
Anyway they put on such a great show that I am considering seeing them again later in the tour, just don’t tell my girl, she will flip if I take another concert road trip, muhahahahah!
Thank you SaintAnger!! Looking forward to your update :)
front to the back to the side to side

Awesome!!! This will be my 5th LP concert, getting uber excited and might hit up the one in CT after NYC tour. Thanks again for your informative post, really appreciated!!
Glad I could help. I hope you enjoy the shows. Yeah I have actually seen them about 8 times over the years. The memories get pretty hazy after the years go by though. Have a blast, LP will rock the house! btw I heard LP is going to be on SnL on 02/05/11, fyi.
I consider myself an older fan at 55. I have seen them everytime they came to Detroit. I am heading out to the show tonight at Joe Louis Arena. After reading these comments I am looking forward to it.
