With his funky music and personality, Mike Mineo keeps his fans devoted to his solo weekly performances at the Kahuna Bar and Grill in Deerfield Beach and The Lodge in Boca Raton.

Mineo calls his music “avant-garde pop”, as he experiments with various instruments. He first learned to play trumpet, then taught himself bass guitar, guitar, and accordion, just to name a few.

His all-time favorite instrument? “My voice,” he jokes, “because I don’t have to carry it around.”

Surprisingly, even with his seemingly care-free personality, it is not all fun and games when it comes to his music.

“I have probably written around 200 songs,” he states, “and only maybe 10 are unfinished.”

Mineo says songwriting just comes naturally to him: “When I was done with a bike ride, it was midnight or something, I got home and I just hit record and I sang a whole song.”

Luckily, that surge of creativity made it on his album. The song is called, “New Shoes.” During the recording process, Mineo says he started off with about 50 songs, and 18 ended up on his album Eccentricity, which is being released April 9.

Mineo is signed with NeverNothing Records. The label’s owner, Brent Williams, says Mineo has “written a catalog of music the size of the Beatles at only 25 years of age,” and calls him a “true prodigy.”

But this does not come as a surprise. Williams states that Mineo has been compared to Jason Mraz, Frank Zappa, and Tom Waits. Mineo said he’s inspired by those artists, but also Van Morrison, The Dave Matthews Band, Danny Elfman and Bob Dylan.

Just like his major influences, his music appeals to many different audiences. Some songs are deeply heartfelt, such as “In Love,” while others are upbeat and energetic like “Believe.” These songs will be on display when Mineo and his seven-piece band perform at The Funky Buddha in Boca Raton on April 9, to celebrate his album release.

Mike Mineo performs at Kahuna’s Bar and Grill in Deerfield every Monday and at The Lodge in Boca Raton every Friday.

Tickets for his album release party at The Funky Buddha in Boca Raton are $10 and can be purchased on his Web site, www.mikemineo.com or bought at the door.
