John Ralston will lead Invisible Music and close out Saturday's Lake Worth-It fest.

This weekend’s Lake Worth-It music festival puts a small town’s large music scene squarely in focus. Organized by Lake Worth resident Cecil Lunsford, the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist for rootsy participants Black Weather Shaman, the all-day event features 20 area acts, plus food, beer and art vendors and a craft fair.
Lunsford sees downtown Lake Worth as a budding musical mecca à la San Francisco in the late 1960s, or New York or Los Angeles from the mid-1970s. His initial idea was to recruit 10 bands, but he got such a response that there are now 45 acts playing at either the festival or its neighboring after-parties.
“I invited 20 bands, figuring we might get 10,” Lunsford said. “So many responded that there are now more playing at the downtown clubs afterward than at the festival. And we plan to donate 5 percent of our profits to an endowment to the city of Lake Worth to specifically promote events like this.”
Like many residents, Lunsford is betting that the city’s unresolved dispute over decibel limits won’t result in an ordinance that hurts the live music scene.
“That would run counter to what Lake Worth stands for,” he said. “I’m hoping this festival helps to solidify a great musical community and helps get us all to act like a community. These aren’t hack bands playing covers. They write good original music, and people come out to hear them, which is good for business all around. Lake Worth is a South Florida oasis for music and art.”
See John Ralston & Invisible Music, Black Weather Shaman, The Jameses, Black Finger, Blond Fuzz, Fire Zuave, Everymen, Bladesong, Guy Harvey, The People Upstairs, Jesse Baumann, Wayside Flyer, The Hard Richards, Kill Now?!, Leading the Heroes, Yellow #6, Angry Pudding, The Chill Pillars, The Dewars and The Ridicules from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday in Bryant Park, at Lake Avenue and the Intracoastal Waterway in Lake Worth ($15 for adults online — lakeworthit.org — until the day of the show, $20 at the gate, $5 for children ages 6-12, free for children 5 and under, 561-324-4971).
‘Round town
Jazz Stream (myspace.com/jazzstream23), the area trio of ever-unpredictable keyboardist Mark Doyle, bassist Cleveland Frederick and drummer Keith Bell, plays twisted standards from noon-3 p.m. every Sunday at The Cottage, 522 Lucerne Ave., Lake Worth (561-586-0080), plus 6-10 p.m. on Aug. 19 on the 300 block of Atlantic Avenue at “Art & Jazz on the Avenue” in Delray Beach (561-279-1380) … Lead vocalist Gin Weintraub Blische and lead guitarist Andy Stein (andystein.net) were the two principal songwriters for the popular area acoustic rock band Inhouse from the mid to late 1990s, and they’ve reunited for two recurring area gigs. The singing guitarists play 6-9 p.m. Sundays at The Living Room, 1709 N. Congress Ave., Boynton Beach (561-742-4399), and 7-9:30 p.m. on Thursdays at the vegetarian restaurant Darbster, 8020 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach (561-586-2622) … Lake Worth’s noise ordinance vote keeps getting pushed back, but Lantana’s is settled. A proposal to end live music at 9 p.m., rather than the current time of 11 p.m., failed to pass at a Lantana Town Council meeting on July 12.

This sounds great!
What a Great Town and Venue !!!
Thanks for letting us know – it sounds great! – I’m surprised I haven’t seen any other advertising for this event…
I wouldn’t miss this show for the world…especially since Leading The Heroes will be playing there!!
Any one of these bands would be worth the admission, but I’m going for my fave, The People Upstairs. I love my town. :-)
If Bryant Park Is A Rockin You’d,
Better Come A Knockin’
WoHoo! TPUS et al !!!!!

Yes! It will be rocking!!!!
useless idea until they cleanup the slum pit of lake worth.music mecca in lake worth not.guess at bryant park at the vendor tables they could sell green cards and illegal drivers licenses, while listening to music played on boom boxes.
Everyone had such positive things to say. And then there’s Bill-negative creep. How about shutting your mouth and staying out of Lake Worth. You will not be missed. Then everyone’s happy.
Lake Worth is gross. Maybe you havent been there recently but if I go there I make sure to carry. Bunch of animals there.
Won’t miss you, Bill. Lake Worth is a wonderfully diverse, accepting community that embraces both a sense of old Florida and new arts. Maybe your local chain resturant will have a nice, safe cover band for you to enjoy this weekend. Me, I’m off to the fest!
And oh, yeah, Bill, your racist comments don’t reflect you in a very positive light. Real Americans don’t fall for the fake fear of made-up buzz words like “anchor babies” that some would prefer you to get your panties in a knot about. A little research, education, compassion and intelligent reasoning would help you see where the real problems lie – not where your Foxy talking heads would like you to believe.
That said, don’t be scared, Bill! Lake Worth’s immigrants and “illegal drivers” probably won’t bite you, lol! Everyone’s welcome to the party!
The sad thing is that I was in Lake Worth on both Monday and Wednesday night, and this is the first I’m hearing about this! I would have planned differently had I known.
Lake Worth is a real village with amazing entertainment and energy. A great place to live and pedestrian friendly…
Won’t be there because I am just a snowbird but I love Lake Worth. Never a problem and the ethnicities are a plus, the downtown has some originality and good prices. They are celebrating something about every ten minutes and I like to go out and see. Hope this event is a big success.
