When longtime radio personality Casey Kasem signed off the air this month, did you have the same thought I did: Casey Kasem is still on the air?
Yes, the indefatigable announcer/pitchman/voice actor hosted “American Top 40” shows on and off since 1970. He represents a Boomer era of 45 rpm singles, one-hit wonders and late nights by the glow of the radio dial listening to live concert shows like The King Biscuit Flower Hour.
Geez, I’m getting old. Anyway, for Casey, one last countdown:
FIVE REASONS WE’LL MISS HIM
That voice, which sounded so velvety smooth and so totally corny.
That signoff: “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”
The chart trivia: Who else knew how many Top 40 hits the Bay City Rollers had in 1976?
The long-distance dedications.
One word: Shaggy!
