Picture the infield at Churchill Downs on Derby Day. Now subtract the hats, but add water, and you get the picture of what it was like aboard the ESPN 760 barge during the Kentucky Derby.

Wall-to-wall people watching a race over 1,000 miles away. No mint juleps, but rum drinks and beer were in place.

It was insane — and it truly was a festive Derby-like atmosphere. Now, the longshot Mine That Bird won, and there was a little head-scratching going on: Thought I heard “Wait, which horse was that?”

One guy put it on me that his horse (The No. 6 — Friesan Fire) lost because I wasn’t rooting hard enough. Sorry, man. I’ll try harder next time.
