The line-up for SunFest 2011 is, arguably, one of the annual waterfront festival’s most current and up-to-date in recent years. Featuring in-the-moment newsmakers like Cee Lo Green, MGMT, Mike Posner and the Avett Brothers with returning headliners like Jason Mraz and legends like Gregg Allman, Jeff Beck and Earth, Wind & Fire, the still incomplete schedule is shaping up to be a winner.

Also in the mix — enough ’80s and ’90s-era names (Styx, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Sublime with Rome and Ziggy Marley) to keep SunFest’s reputation as a retro party intact, plus the coolness of jam band O.A.R. and New Orleans’ legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Several weeks ago, parts of the schedule were leaked – but not confirmed – when Toad (“All I Want,” “Walk On The Ocean”) and legendary guitarist Beck announced their participation on their Web site. But SunFest, for its part, refused to confirm any part of the schedule before hand.

Still to come – more national and local names. SunFest has also announced its first-ever 5K race, on Fri., Apr. 29.

Here’s the full list of headliners and the dates and stages on which they’re playing that SunFest announced this morning (FYI, Bank of America Stage is the main one closest to Clematis Street; Tire Kingdom Stage is the Meyer Amphitheater; FPL Stage is the one closest to Okeechobee Blvd.):

Lineup is lame. BUT $30 is cheap to go see one of my fave bands, IMO. I’ll be there! But seating at the Bank Atlantic Stage ! HOW BORING. THAT SUCKS. Front of the stage should have standing only. THEY NEED TO CHANGE THAT. Worst way to see a band is to sit there infront of them. I can’t bear to even watch people just SITTING THERE. REMOVE SEATING!!!!

Just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and complain: where are the metal bands? old school punk bands? industrial bands? Outlaw country bands? When will Sunfest right these terrible wrongs?!

WOW! clicked on your name – and didn’t take me long to see why you don’t like much less then HARD METAL, you one tough woman! :/ . . . . LOL Hope you see that not everyone sees things as you do.

A TERRIBLE list of ‘has been’ – second rate acts!

TRUE, in the early days SunFest was FREE, unfenced, BYOB, and featured some local bands/performers from around South Florida. BUT, in order to at least cover costs and make some profit it evolved into also featuring many different forms of nationally recognized JAZZ acts to become a competing JAZZ & ARTS festival on the national level (ie: Coconut Grove, New Orleans, Newport RI, and Grand Rapids). The Rippingtons, Kenny G, Bella Fleck, Richard Elliot, and many, many others were featured over the earlier years providing memorable performances for a reasonable general admission fee!

At one time, SunFest was billed as Florida’s LARGEST JAZZ & Water Festival and what many considered to be the BEST festival of it’s kind in the entire Southeast US!

BUT, current day, it has evolved into nothing but a huge and congested RIP-OFF with hardly any jazz acts being featured at all! RUINED by greedy local event organizers!

sunfest has move forward as a festival the public ask for, there are survey’s taken and poles given which list and ask people what they would like to hear. given how government and the economy has had to make major cuts in police and fire personnel, we should be thankful that when season ends and spring begins we still have a great event along our waterfront bringing in tax dollars. every tax dollar west palm brings in helps keep government running ie police, fire, clematis by night, trash collection, paved roads etc.. so instead of complaining that it is not the bands you want or the gate fee you want be thankful it brings good revenue. that allows things we have taken for granted to keep functioning.

Lame? Pretty good lineup actually. Jeff Beck??? Very awesome!!! So many whiney bitches out there. That’s lame.

  7. Shivonna says:

I like a lot of these bands. Just because you don’t know them doesn’t mean they’re bad. MGMT is a hot mofo ticket! So are the Avett Brothers, Neon Trees and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD STYX! This is a super awesome line-up and if I still lived in Florida, I’d be there every night. Haterz gone hate, folks.

  8. Mike says:

Sounds like a great line-up as ZZ Top last year mad it great. I’ll be in Europe this year working and miss it.

What I’d like to see next year is local talent like Jimmy and Rod play who else lives around here.

  9. WPB NATIVE says:

Hate to break it to all of you but this did started as a JAZZ FEST and the headliners are AWESOME with something for everyone.

  10. Erika Davis says:

i enjoyed the jazz artist that were featured years ago, i don’t know any of these unknowns, and the admission is rediculious.

  11. Shaun says:

I can’t wait to see Sublime with Rome!

  12. mrun says:
