Have you ever fancied yourself a film critic?

Would you like to see tomorrow’s Steven Spielberg today?

Consider screening student films and voting online for the Audience Award winner at the 2013 Student Showcase of Films on Friday, a prelude to next month’s Palm Beach International Film Festival, April 4-11.

The field has been narrowed to 10 films by industry pros from nearly 300 submissions. PBIFF, in collaboration with the Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission, will award more than $10,000 in cash and scholarships.

Several local students are already winners, and one local finalist won both a scholarship and a distinct honor. Zachary Lambe, a senior at G-Star School of the Arts who plans to attend UCF next year, saw his film, “RnJ,” a contemporary version of “Romeo & Juliet,” earn the $2,500 Burt Reynolds Scholarship. Reynolds will present the award at Friday’s show.

Evan DeCarmine from G-Star School of the Arts will received the $500 Sara Fuller Scholarship. David Freund of Seminole Ridge High School won first place in the Commercial/PSA category for “Above the Influence.” Lance Oppenheim of the Pine Crest School won first place in documentary category for “The Dogmatic.”

Before the ceremony, at 9:30 a.m. Friday, filmmakers will walk the red carpet with several well-known actors and execs, including Bruce Campbell, lovable Sam on Miami’s “Burn Notice,” but known to filmmakers for cult classics “Evil Dead” and “Army of Darkness;” Dean Lyon, who worked on visual effects for the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and producer Jacqueline Renee Journey, who also performed in NBC’s “Friday Night Lights.”

The 10 eligible films are available for viewing and voting at: tinyurl.com/vote-for-SSOF.

The nominees are:

“The List” by Daniela Arguello, Cypress Bay High School. Sometimes Christmas needs an agent.

“Dependence” by Andrew Davis, Calvary Christian Academy. A soldier in the field is interrogated by Nazis and his comrades will be executed unless he divulges the contents of a coded message.
