An exhibit to be proud of

By Leslie Gray Streeter

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

I used to get asked a lot if I just wrote about black music, or black TV or black movies or black art. Is it art by artists of African heritage? Is it political, and if so, what kind of politics? Does it always have to be sad? Joyous? Is it just for black people, or, just like enjoying Shakespeare and Picasso don’t require a birth certificate, is it open to everyone? “Say It Loud,’ the Norton’s current exhibition of work by African-American artists from its collections, answers those questions stirringly, in anger and laughter, in pain and in celebration. It’s for you.

“Say It Loud,” at the Norton Museum of Art, 1451 S. Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach 561-832-5196
