This week’s bar: Mojito Latin Cuisine & Bar
The scene: A sprawling space next door to City Cellar, Mojito Latin Cuisine & Bar imparts a glow to all who enter. Is it the complexion-flattering interior design — all dark woods, ambers and reds? Is it the syncopated music on the sound system that gets the blood flowing? Or is it the huge selection of spirits, namely tequila, at two bars?
The signature cocktail: The Furioso Margarita ($11.50), a unique blend of salty, sweet and sour tastes, with notes of coffee. “It’s a really unusual drink,” says mixologist Neno Mingovski, “and that’s why people like it. They haven’t tasted anything like it before.”
Other noteworthy drinks: More mojitos than you can shake a mortar and pestle at. Made with fresh mint from Mojito’s CityPlace garden and fresh fruit delivered daily, none of the cocktails feature added sugar: “No hangover the next day,” says mixologist Neno Mingovski. “That’s the best thing.”
We loved the Coco Mojito ($9.50), which resembles an icy-cold milkshake and is just sweet enough. We look forward to trying the Lychee Mojito ($9.50) on our next visit, but we’ll leave the Power Mojito ($9.50), made with Red Bull and ginseng, to those fueling up for a late night of dancing to Mojito’s live bands on Fridays and Saturdays.
The food: The tapas-based menu celebrates Spanish, Mexican, Cuban and Peruvian cuisine, and gives it a Mediterranean twist. That translates into creative dishes such as lobster guacamole ($10), mini roasted lamb wraps ($9.50), pulled pork sliders ($8) and Manchego mac ‘n’ cheese ($5). Mojito also boasts a raw bar and offers wood-fired quesadillas.
The deals: Drink specials during happy hour, 3 to 7 p.m. daily.

Furioso Margarita
3 or 4 freshly squeezed limes
A splash of Grand Marnier
2 ounces Patron tequila
1 ounce Patron coffee liqueur
1 ounce sour mix
A splash of orange juice
Margarita salt
Whipped cream
Mix all liquid ingredients in a shaker with ice. Pour into a glass rimmed with salt and top with whipped cream according to taste.
