With a name like Angel’s Envy – you know you’ve got a lot to live up to.

This small-batch bourbon, straight from the genius of master distiller Lincoln Henderson, does just that.

With a light amber color and a rich, seductive scent, like molasses and sin, Angel’s Envy promises and delivers a bourbon for special occasions.

Palm Beach County-based wine and spirits expert Mark Spivak, author of the newly published “Iconic Spirits,” first recommended this bourbon to me a couple of months ago. Since then, I’ve seen it popping up at great bars all over Palm Beach County as more of us become entranced with bourbon – as well we should be.

According to the website, the bourbon is aged for six years in white oak barrels and then finished off in ruby port wine barrels, which gives it the smooth, sweet finish that helps it glide down oh-so-easily. It is micro-crafted, which means it is blended eight to twelve barrels at a time.

My favorite part? After the warm, lovely taste, the distillery’s quote: “Sin aside, we work every day to inspire envy, even if it takes a little longer.”

I enjoy bourbon best on the rocks, after it sits just long enough to make swallowing it easy-going. But if you’re a mixing type, then Angel’s Envy has more than a couple of recipes for you from the simple (though when anything with an egg white and simple syrup classifies as simple, I’m not sure) to the complex (I’ll let you know when I find peach-violet essence) to the seasonal. Then again, it’s darn fantastic with some fancy ice cubes — just sayin’.

Angel’s Envy: Can be found at Total Wine and More for $48.99 for a 750 ml or at area bars and restaurants.
