The bar: Candyfish, inside Delray’s Union

The vibe: It’s two, two, two Asian restaurants in one! Candyfish is the hip, upscale (hipscale?) sushi bar located inside, but a separate concept from, Union, which has one of the best Happy Hours in the area and an inspired Asian fusion menu. Candyfish’s culinary mastermind is Chef Zhang, also known as Chef Steve, a more than five year veteran of trendy Nobu Miami. Co-owner Scott Kennedy says that Candyfish fulfills the original vision of Union — “We intended to open with a sushi concept, but we were waiting for the right chef,” he says. Done!

The drink: The Grapes of Wrath (ha!), featuring muddled frozen grapes, a sweeter sake and vodka. It’s cool, unexpected, and was specifically created to complement sushi. You know how people use the word “interesting” because they can’t find anything else to say? We use it here in its most basic form, to say that the Grapes of Wrath is different, creative and unique. And the name makes us laugh.

Best bite: The High Roller (market price, but probably around $30) has a name that says it all, because the price isn’t cheap. But neither is the main ingredient - lobster, in its succulent, non-fried and smothered form. It’s a whole steamed lobster topped with claw meat and a spicy vinaigrette. Yum!

Other bar bites: The Candyfish Classic ($16), with tuna, salmon, white fish and avocado (delicious!) and the tempura Honey Walnut Shrimp $14.

Deals: For the moment, the sushi at Candyfish is not a part of Union’s sweet Happy Hour, which offers half-off food items. But all of the drinks, including the Grapes of Wrath, is part of the 3-for-1 deal - and you don’t even have to drink your two free drinks that day (they’ll give you a coupon to come back!) It’s 5-7 p.m. every day!

4 frozen grapes muddled

1/2 ounce Nigori Sake

10 ounces premium vodka

Splash of simple syrup

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake and enjoy!
