The bar: The Bar, the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach
The scene: The Bar is not, in fact, the only bar at the gorgeous, tranquil resort - there’s also the Living Room Lounge and the oceanfront Atlantic Bar and Grill. But it’s adjacent to the similarly comfortably elegant The Restaurant, making it perfect for pre-dinner cocktails. The crowd is a collection of hotel guests and well-heeled locals - recently we raised a toast near a fabulous older lady sporting black sequins. At 5:30 p.m during a heat wave. Because that’s how she rolls. Love it.
The drink: It used to be called Stephen’s Basil Lemonade, a nod to creator and bar manager Stephen Clark, but now it’s just the Basil Lemonade ($14). We call it dangerously delicious, a light, drinkable marriage of Ultimat vodka, St. Germain and lemonade, accented with fragrant, flavorful basil. We’re with Stephen - if we’d come up with this, we’d want some credit for it too.
Other noteworthy libations: The Bar’s specialty cocktail list adds a few new delights seasonally. Recent additions include the Palm Beach Radius, made from ingredients from Palm Beach County, including 4 Orange Vodka, hibiscus and mint. We also like the sweet-tart Key Lime Martini, and the Manhattan, Fl. (a Cocktail Culture fave) made with Florida-made Palm Ridge Reserve bourbon. All are $14. Also, check out the local crafted brews and the seasonal brew, which changes seasonally (but you knew that).
Bar bites: We never knew that red wine plus mushrooms plus poached egg equaled taste bud nirvana, but the Red Wine Braised Mushrooms ($9) have set us straight. Also heavenly - the Cobia Ceviche ($17).
Neat tidbit: The one iPad it’s not rude to use at dinner - the wine iPad, featuring the Bar’s drink selection and even detailed information about all of the wines. That’s an app we believe in.

C O C K T A I L
Basil Lemonade
1 1/2 ounce Ultimat vodka
1/2 ounce St. Germain liqueur
1 large basil leaf, torn
3 ounces fresh lemonade
Splash of soda
Shake first four ingredients over ice and pour into chilled beer glass. Top with splash of soda and garnish with a basil leaf and lemon.
