(Damon Higgins/The Palm Beach Post) WEST PALM BEACH - The Clover, nicknamed the Man-tini, prepared at Bar Louie in downtown West Palm Beach. Drink includes Maker’s Mark, Hennessy, orange juice, fresh lemon juice, and agave nectar.

The bar: Bar Louie, Clematis Street

The vibe: For years, the cavernous restaurant space on the corner of Clematis Street and Narcissus Avenue sat empty, just crying out to be inhabited by some fun, busy bar with an eclectic crowd of after-work suits, 20-something flirters and pre-dinner cocktailers. Bar Louie, which used to be down the street in CityPlace and also has an outpost in Boynton Beach, heard that cry and answered. Emphatically. Deliciously.

The drink: The Clover ($10) nicknamed the Man-Tini for its definitive oomph and non-girliness. You will notice that many bars’ signature cocktails are some sort of lemonade-y, pink fruity froofery. This is not. It’s a clean, straightforward concoction of Hennessy, Maker’s Mark and agave nectar, with a kiss of citrus to keep things fresh. Manly, yes, but I like it, too!

Other noteworthy libations: The Coconut Mint Lemonade ($10), with coconut water, coconut vodka, fresh mint, and enough tropical flavor to make you think you’ve washed up on an island somewhere. Hopefully somewhere where the other inhabitants spend their time learning how to fix a boat and not make technology out of coconuts (I’m looking at you, Professor from Gilligan’s Island.)

Deals: Oh, deals are a-plenty at Bar Louie. Behold the Happy Hour, Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., featuring $3 draft beer, $5 martinis, which includes the Clover, and half-price select appetizers, including the light, chewy calamari and the massive bruschetta, with garlic-y toast points and tasty tomato topping in a massive martini glass. And the Sunday T&A special features $3 Bud Light and $3 Pabst Blue Ribbon, with half-off select apps.
